I have the Sony EX-70 and then the EX71, they are both decent and would buy them again except for these flaws.
1 - The rubber bits comes off really easily, I've lost all my medium size ones. 2 - The cable in the EX-71 is too frail, it splits after a few month of use, starts with the Y junction and nearest to the connector. So after those 2 I've decide to go for this about 12 months ago. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...013425-8133224 They sound better, and the rubber bit is much harder to come loose. They also seal much better. It also come with some foam tips as well so for those who prefer them can use it. It's been 12 months now, cable has not split or showing any signs of splitting. The clip on the cable is really useful, all headphones should have this, clip it to the clothes or Tshirt. They do cost twice as much as the EX71 but I think they've out lasted them, and I think its worth it. |

The cable splitting was a common problem which has now been addressed I think. Can't say I've ever lost a rubber thingy either. Horses for courses eh, but yours look pretty smart Ray

Shockingly similar to mine, except I paid full price (which was even more than your 'normal' price)

They are/were primarily designed for stage use - ie for drummers and singers to hear whats going on over the top of all the din. One of my friends here at uni has a pair and he uses them extensively as a drummer and generally for walking around with them in. Obviously everyones ears are different but in my experience, those in ear monitors are very special pieces of kit indeed. The top ones retail at quite a high price too, but for connecting to the appalling output stage of an iPod, they are probably too good EDIT: Note that the ones I linked to are the "commercial" ones, designed for home users really but they still use the tech that goes into the top end designs. If you want true fidelity, you need to be looking at these (which are truely AWESOME): http://www.ultimateears.com/custom/UE-10-Pro.htm Note: You will have a hard time getting hold of them outside of the US and you simply cannot get them 2nd hand because they take a moulding of your ear and then cusom-make the housing to fit perfectly Last edited by Dr. Z; 27-03-2007 at 21:21. |

Seen those before. I'm going to the US soon but I certainly can't justify $800.
Although, having said that, I did justify that as I've got two pairs of Bose QuietComforts for office/airline use. Much prefer over/round ear to in-ear, but walking around the streets with noise-cancelling headphones isn't such a smart idea. |

Tried the Shure E3c's?
Available for £70 now - not the best one's I've used. I prefer the e5c's but they cost a little more. I wear the 3c's in the gym and they're perfect. Block out the gym's crap music and the gossiping bints and lets me get on nicely. The rubber bits can be a little uncomfortable, but the foam earpieces are perfect. Simon/~Flibster

the o/h has shure e2g (i think) cost about £80 from the apple shop
he is more than thrilled with them BUT has only had them a few weeks, so can't tell you about long term durability had those frilly in ear ones before, that someone has posted piccies of (bought off the bay for about £50, but not worth the £150 they are in shops) but they broke very easily - with only a few months use \ small ears and daft piercings mean i cannot use these clever in ear headphones - so im just passing on *his* advice |
