Last time I broke down on the motorway was after my spin onto the grass verge at 90MPH. I thought it was okay so tried to drive off, but it died as I got back onto the inside lane of the sliproad. It was 3am on a Sunday night/Monday morning, and even though I'm big and take care of myself, even I was a little nervous when the first guy pulled over to offer help. Thankfully, as my car was on the inside lane he just stopped to try and help me get it onto the hard shoulder (we failed, the black ice made it impossible to get any foot grip to push it). With knowing what I felt in that situation, I'd think very hard before stopping to help someone, though my limited knowledge of car engines would probably make any such offer of help futile anyway.

I once gave a little old lady a lift to some shops were she could use a phone. As it was back in the old days when phones were not mobile !
Nowadays most people have mobiles, so stopping to help a woman is more dangerous for the man trying to help ! !

I would only help if it was on some back country lane, as mobile reception could be impaired.
In the past I have pick up scooter riders who have skidded on black ice near were I was filling up with petrol, funny thing is it was happening every 1-2 mins another scooter came along and slide on the black ice on the corner of the road I was filling up.
Also when I use to ride motorbikes I was ran out of petrol on the A12 between Hatfield Peveral & Witham.
A depatch ride stopped next to me on his CX500, said take your petrol tank off your motorbike ( yamaha RS 125 DX which had a butter fly not on the tank) I hopped on to his bike with the said petrol tank, and he took me to petrol station just off the Witham A12 slip road. So i put some petrol in the tank offered to put in his bike, which refused. he then took me back down the A12 to Hatfield Peveral, then back up the other carriage way to my stranded bike.
From that day on I always carried petrol in a glass bottle, just incase I or another biker ran out of petrol.

Ditto! I can't believe it! I hope she got the book thrown at her. What a ****.

I just had a thought - I would stop for a fellow biker if he looked like he needed help. Probably more likely if I was on my bike though.

Surprise surprise, no. She got away with it but my mate had a very very tough time dealing with it. He ended up losing his wife and is still trying to rebuild his life.

Burble: What a complete and utter tart. People like that just ruin our world entirely. Attention-seeking-bint. Mentally ill I say... if only she knew what it was really like then she wouldn't josh over things like that.

Stupid Stupid Cow. I truly despise people like that.

On yer average busy motorway, no. The police are up and down there on a regular basis and most people have a mobile. On somewhere like the M45 at 0400 then probably - if I see them in time to figure out that they've broken down.

And always stop for bikes whether I'm on 2 wheels or four

Absolutely. Why make something up like that?? It's shocking.

When I was younger and drove ratty old Minis, there were a number of occasions where I had broken down at the side of the road. There were a number of men who would stop to see if they could help, which is nice but a bit scary when you are a young woman on your own. Fortunately I always had breakdown cover so once I said the man in a van was on his way, they drove off.

If I broke down in Sakura, I have RAC membership and also the confidence to have a look to see if I could sort it myself. (Or ring Phil to see if he has any ideas).

I would stop if I saw another broken Mk1 MR2 and it was safe to do so, or maybe a young girl in a Mini, as I'd probably know what to do! Although if I was on my own and it was dark, I may have second thoughts just to be on the safe side. Maybe I'd ring someone as I got out of the car just so someone else knew where I was and what I was doing.

I wouldn't stop for someone who'd broken down I'm afraid, unless they needed help pushing it out of the way and I'd rather the same happened for me. Really wouldn't want randoms stopping to see if they could help, because it'd freak me out a bit. I'm in the RAC anyway, so I'd just call them and wait for them to turn up.

If someone'd crashed, it'd be a completely different story because I remember how thankful we were when someone stopped for us just after Leon crashed the 309. It was about 3am and we had NO phone reception on a pretty quiet road (at night). All they did was lend him their phone and help move the car a bit. Life savers

Thought that the police advised against stopping on the Motorways to help people?
