I'm more than happy with that, should do fine and it should be pretty much whisper quiet being seagate
Are there any things I should be aware about when ghetto modding my fans to 7v with the 12v and 5v lines trick? That won't mess around with my power supply will it? The only sound will probably come from the stock(ish i think) cooler that comes with the P4). |

Funny that. The one time I spent money on a decent case it was an Antec Sonata that came with an Antec PSU. Within 1/2 hour of powering up the system it blew with one hell of a crack.

VERY ironically, it was a power supply i stole from my incredibly reliable sonata! Who'd guessed! it's been trusty and chugging away for 4 years, although its had the last year off when i upgraded, and bought a shuttle, then relegated that and bought a laptop (uni, computers and living a few hundred miles apart are bad - lesson learned).

Well it arrived today (super impressed with delivery from this guy on ebay) even though RM are striking he used citylink (good feedback for that ). All up and running fine, except i'm more short than i realised on power leads By about 5 i think, but thats without any y-spliters so i will be good to go whenever they arrive I've got a few hard drives plugged in moving data around everything is good to go.
I've got OpenFiler ready to install too, but i can't see that it supports being a print server but it wouldn't suprise me if it does anyway, or can be told to... |

When (not if) that one dies, I'd recommend spending money on a decent PSU instead of a cheap one. I used to always cut corners on the PSU since I never thought it'd make that much difference, and they used to die all the time - I must've gone through at least half a dozen of them before I decided it would just be cheaper to get something good that wasn't going to break. It worked.

Exactly - and even one can be a false economy. Seasonic are generally good, but if a cheap PSU dies and take other hardware with it, then you'll probably pay more to replace the dead hardware than the cost of a decent PSU the first time.

I know about false economy guys, but the Antec that was in it died, only lasted 3-4 years i guess, whenever i built the sonata PC up. Yeah it didn't take anything with it because its a good make. I only need a decent name for reliability, seasonic is that... I'm barely loading 300w if i've calculated correctly, so theres no real problem here. There's no point buying a new PSU becuase they're
A)TOO big generally or overprice for 300-400w's B)have too many new connectors i'm only going to cut off This won't die anytime soon, i was unlucky with the Antec, and maybe i'll get unlucky with this, but it'll obviously give up the ghost (like any PSU no matter how much you spend) eventually. £50 on a PSU really isn't in my budget what-so-ever i needed something to get it on the road ASAP this is the best (without a doubt) i could have done for £10 delivered. It's perfect |
