My card got skimmed :-(

Well since April 2007 a legislation was passed that meant any fraud had to be dealt with by the banks and if police assistance was needed they would have to contact the police. I did phone the police and they just told me that after I had googled it anyway.

I think when I initially called she couldnt tell me the location as when I went in the branch the manager lady had to phone HQ and then be directed to a seperate line who know the ATM codes.

I had dodgy transactions on my account at Christmas time. I called the bank and got the card stopped but couldn't do anything about it until I got back home.

I called them and they put me through to my own branch. I spoke to a very nice lady who organised me a new card (I had it in less than a week) and sent me forms to fill in which arrived two days later. I filled in the forms about 3 weeks ago and the two amounts for the dodgy transactions were refunded yesterday.

All in all, I'd say that was pretty good service. I've had good reason to criticise my bank in the past but on this occasion, they've excelled themselves. Handy having a Scottish bank with a Scottish call centre.

Hope yours gets sorted as quickly Holly. When I spoke to the bank, they said that once they process the forms, they contact the suppliers where the card was used and they have 45 days to respond so I suppose I was quite lucky. Hopefully the shop yours was used in will respond as quickly. Not sure how it works with ATM withdrawls though.

Got a call from Yorkshire today to say basically there is no evidence whatsoever on the card that it has been cloned so in their eyes I had the card and benig the only one who had access to it/knew the password it doesnt work in my favour. Aparently cloned cards are captured very quickly and mine hasnt been reported. How can they tell when a cloned card is used? If they could tell then why cant they stop atm's accepting it and plus I discovered it 6 days after and thats not too long.

They are informing the police now and they will contact me. Also because the last transaction I made was on 29 Dec (money stolen on 1st Feb) this is also abit too long for a fraudster to wait.

So its almost as if she was accusing me of taking the money. not so assured I'll get my money back yet so still its a waiting game

That's farcical. Who voluntarily withdraws £600 in varying large cash amounts from a savings account all in the same very short space of time?

I had my debit card skimmed very recently, I didn't even know until Barclays called me - they'd frozen my account and I didn't lose a penny. In my case, the copied card was used in Malaysia.. I was impressed with how the whole thing was handled, I am sorry to hear that you've not had as much luck.

Surely unless they can prove beyond all doubt that it was you, it wasn't you and therefore not your fault?

Don't atm's have cameras? Couldn't you prove you were no where near whichever atms it was that the money was taken from?

Well I am not stopping until I receive a refund. I have emailed the financial ombudsmen, and hopeful in the fact they have dealt with and succeeded in similar cases also receiving compensation as well.

I have written an email to the presenter from "Get it done, Get Dom" as he dealt with a similar case and got lots of compensation. (but I hope to God I dont end up on prime time tv). And I am typing up an official letter now for the Yorkshire Head Quarters.

If the police do get in contact hopefully they should monitor the ctv footage!

You need to find a way of proving where you were at the times the money was taken. Were you at work? Do you have a receipt of something you bought elsewhere around the time? There must be something

What Desmo said is a good idea. If you can prove that you were somewhere else a far enough distance from the cash machine concerned that you couldn't have been in both places at once then you are nearly there.

Also ask the bank if they have any footage or pics from the cash machine for that transaction.

Well I know the time of one of the payments was made at 10pm in Bow, if that was Monday I was at Yoga till 8 but if its on a Tuesday I'll have people to say I was at home. If it was in the afternoon I was at work. Feel like Im being accused of bloody murder if they want me to prove where I was.

I have sent an angry complaint letter to Yorkshire today. Also highlighting the fact they let £500 out in a day when the limit is £250 and why they failed to notify me when they froze my account. Plus when mentioning the police they'll only contact me if they need to, implying they may not so Yorkshire are basically washing their hands of the case.
