A lot of radio stations and companies now use FB believe it or not. Because you can restrict/grant access to certain parts of your profile or all of it, it's easy to taylor who can see what you're up to and not. Only my friends can access my profile.

That's why I restrict access.

Well there's nothing overly sensitive. I get your point though. It's a bit of fun for me, and an easy way of getting in touch with people or just keeping an eye on people's lives...

While I don't have anyone to report to that could get me fired or something I do have nearly 500 people who have subscribed to my site. Thats 500 people I don't know who get an email / rss from my site every day. Potential clients, actual clients, family, stalkers, etc. So while I have no boss I think I owe it to myself to keep my personal life offline. I use Twitter, which is basically FB's status thing but I'm feeling like I will only post photo related things there rather than "I'm so cold and tired" as I stupidly have done before. I use these more as a marketing, social networking tool than a "Dude I was sooooo wasted last night" brain fart tool At least I should. Hence FB, I could accept friend requests from randoms who are fans of my work but I'm not sure yet because they see things that actual friends write. Its tricky.

Edit: Its all about how I want to be seen, and I'd rather been seen simply as a good photographer than some crazy depressed nut bar

I have my mobile number - but that's it, I've done the same as you restricted access to certain people to even see that I exist on FB.

Just restrict your FB account, and vet who you let see you. There's no way they can tell. Tehy can't even see it through a mutual friend if you have blocked them from seeing you.

LOL - it sounds like I love FB and am a fanboy! I'm not really, I just like to see what my friends are up to and that goes for people here - so I'm just trying to convince the people who are a bit unsure that she should stay there so I can stalk 'em!

Pete, FB is a friends thing. You dont add anyone as a friend if you dont know them, its not a site for people to be fans of your work, its just for your buds

My profile is open to anyone who wants to see it, except my contact details which are restricted to those on my friends list. The only reason I'd ever close the whole thing to just friends is if I went for a new job at a prestigious company. In my current job I'm not too bothered.

I'll admit it gets a bit tedious when the same people keep changing their status every five minutes and upload identical generic photos of nights out. There's an old work colleague on my list who is currently travelling and uses her status to tell everyone exactly what she's doing every damn day. There's a big difference between 'xxx is in Brazil!' and 'xxx is currently in an internet cafe uploading pictures from a mountain trek and is about to go for dinner at a café recommended to her by her auntie's best friend. I might have the blowfish.' Good grief!
