Time for the rational:
People that give you really pathetic excuses because they think it's more polite than just saying "No thanks", "I'm not interested" or "I just couldn't be bothered" - you're really not important enough for me to give two shiny ones about thinking you really really wanted to come but your car broke down whilst you were on your way, or something else entirely unlikely happened. People that bail out on plans 5 minutes before when they've known for weeks but just don't want to say so because they think it's more polite to do it late and say "something has come up" - See above. RANTY RANTY RANT!

I have a friend who has bailed out on plans three times in the past 8 months claiming they are waiting for carpet fitters to fit a new carpet in their living room. They bailed on Thursday and surprisingly enough when I went round on Friday, they didn't have carpet in their living room......
My thing that's annoying me at the moment, people who just can't take a hint and keep on and on and on. One of them is just completely infuriating and the other is a complete perv who keeps on feeling the need to ask me if they've overstepped the mark. My private life is just that, mine and private! If I'd wanted to talk to them about it I would've done so already!

However, it makes no difference to me what I watch. I remember watching bollywood movies in Urdu or something when we were in Mauritius and I've spent many an hour watching German (steady now!) Italian, Greek or Spanish drivel on the box on Med holidays. For me it's not what's actually on the box, it's a noise thing. I can't stand the sound of silence. I have to have some noise, and preferably, some flickering lights to go with it. Radio isn't as powerful a calming device to me as tv. My wife will happily sit in a quiet room and read a book but I find I cannopt concentrate if it's quiet and I feel claustraphobic and anxious in such an environment. Odd, I know. I'm perfectly happy to read a book, but I'd need the tv on in the background before I could concentrate on the book. After typing this I have just looked it up and it's apparently called sedatephobia. I never knew that I'm not really bad in that I don't always need sound on to get to sleep for example, although on the occasional holiday when we have been in a cottage in the middle of nowhere and it is utterly silent, I have had issues sleeping without some noise on low. I suppose it's not a true phobia for me as it just makes me uncomfortable and anxious rather than full blown panic, but I do hate to be in a quiet place. |

Ahhh but that's different! It's people who are *obsessed* with watching shows and get utterly distressed if they miss something and plan their lives around tv! Ugh!
I don't need any background noise as I have Sam |

Neighbours! Speaking to one of my neighbours (older lady) who says to me 'Oh have you seen Georges new windows? They're lovely, double glazed they open outwards too!'. Instantly alarm bells ring..... we live in a listed building. 'Err, he is allowed to get those sort of windows?.......Actually maybe I shouldn't ask'. 'Oh, that's just silly all the rules they make you stick to anyway, I don't see why we should have to. I'm not sure if he did' she says.
I had a quick look at them and they are uPVC, aren't sash and open outwards. On checking the local council information uPVC and windows that open outwards are not acceptable on any listed building (A, B or C). Double glazed sash windows may be acceptable if the astragals are slender (>25mm) and if timber beads are tapered to resemble a putty fillet. This is occasionally accepted on 'C' listed buildings. So he didn't check then I'm not going to say anything myself and drop him in it. But my windows need sorted so I'm going to enquire about whether double glazed sash windows that meet the criteria will be acceptable. If not I'll just go for a full refurb (though I'm still tempted to stick with a refurb as I love the old glass with its ripples and imperfections). Hopefully they'll not come to notice his windows if they need to check mine before approval!! Oh and if you don't agree with the rules you have to stick to then don't purchase a listed property!!!!!!!!!!! |
