People who moan so much about having no money and not being able to buy loo roll, to the point others give them money, and they they go on about their new ereader or how they are looking to get an iPad or tablet.

This!! I see it a lot with people spending money on their kids. A mate at work is always skint and you always have to stand him a drink when he's out, and then you find out later that he's just bought his kid an iPad. I know you love your kids and want to give them the best you can, but why should we subsidise it? Even worse, my sister lost her house because she was skint and, instead of spending her dole money on paying the bills and food, she bought my nephew a playstation, telly, games, iPhone, etc. etc. whatever he wanted.

She's a retard. How is my nephews life better for having a playstation but no roof over his head??

It isn't the first time - I've known people to get her a weeks worth of food shopping because she only had 30p or something. But can still buy herself cosmetics and wash stuff from Lush.

Don't often quote myself, but thought it was appropriate given the last few posts. Things aren't always as they seem, although I'm sure there are people who take the mickey.

Yes.

#1 The restaurant is paid for with vouchers that I got for doing some photos for someone. No cost to me at all.

#2 The bike is paid for through the cycle to work scheme, so costs me nothing for a few weeks and little after that, and will save me money in fuel etc over the course of time.

#3 The phone, I replaced for buttons, is a MUCH lower spec than the one I had stolen and is the phone I use for photographic jobs - if I don't have one, I lose money. Simple. Plus I paid it on a storecard which I'll have to pay back over the course of the next few months.

The point is, things aren't always as they seem. I can't afford a night out and I've already said that I don't really want to go. Why question me like I'm in Crown Court when surely it's relative what I do with my own money anyway!?!

I know it was different with you kitten, but she does it so often. Just fed up hearing she has lovely friends because someone bought her a weeks worth of food and in the next breath say all the new things she is going to buy herself.

Must be very frustrating. I heard recently about a chap I and a lot of people knew on Twitter, always complaining about having no money & being miserable. Turns out he's had around 40k from his followers. Bizzare.

That's not the same thing though. Someone asked you if you wanted to go out and you said no because you couldn't afford it. To me that's fine. If you have something to spend your money on and so cannot afford something else, that's life.

We're talking (well, I am at least) on people who, instead, would say "oh yeah, I'll be there" then turn up and sponge drinks of everyone all night by moaning about how little they get paid and how expensive their rent is and so on, giving everyone a guilt trip, and then you find out later that they had spent their months wages on a gold plated kennel for the dog or something.

AND they'll do it every time you go out, always turning up with the sob story about being broke and always getting everyone else to pay, when all the time they are lavishing their cash on expensive non essentials for themselves (or their kids)

I'm just saying, things aren't always as they seem. How do you know their Mother in Law (etc) hasn't bought those things? That's the situation with my friends, always bloody skint but always flashing the latest stuff. Because they don't buy it and she won't give them money because they're useless with it, she'll buy them stuff for the kids or the house. They can't afford a coffee and are months behind on their mortgage but they have brand new cars and a massive 3D TV etc. They don't tell people she bought stuff because they're embarrassed.

I just wouldn't buy them a drink when I go out, and if I think someone's taking the piss, I'll have a quiet word and ask them outright what they're up to/tell them why I'm not buying them anything anymore. Surely at that point you re-evaluate your relationship and stop being taken for a mug. People only treat you how you allow them to, in my experience.
