I used to find the same, till I learned a valuable technique...

When you get it, hack it all down straight away to just stalks about an inch long. use what you've got and then keep the pot of stalks in the sun and water every day/when it gets dry.

it'll take a while but it'll start growing back all of the stalks that you left will shrivel up and eventually fall off - don't be tempted to pull at them or you'll pull it out by the roots and that's bad hmkay.

I have a coriander plant from Sainsbury's that's been going a good few months now.

It grows back at a better rate too and is far more manageable, I find it's too leggy when you buy it from the shops which is why it never stands up.

I love that strong coriander you buy in places like Greece/Cyprus. Adds such flavour.

I have that unfortunate genetic trait that means to me it tastes of soap! Imagine someone grating some soap in to your food, that's what coriander is like for me. It's getting used in more and more foods, even ones that you normally wouldn't expect it in these days. I just need to learn to scrutinise the labels more throughly.

Must be like when I got pine mouth from making my own pesto - everything had a horrible bitter aftertaste for a month. Disgusting.

Tried your tip SINC, will see how it goes.

This is an odd one. Thinking about how many surprises, be it presents, collections, parties, birthdays or just get togethers you've arranged or helped to arrange over the last few years, and realising that no-one has ever done it for you.

I have a birthday too, it might be at an awkward time for people but there are twelve other months there could have been a 'not quite birthday' get together or something.

To be honest, I don't do it for reciprocation but it struck me last night that I seem to have done this quite a few times now, in some cases, several times for the same group of people, but they don't seem to have ever made any effort whatsoever to make me feel special or loved as I have for them.

There's a fine line between being a good, thoughtful friend and being a mug. I think I've realised which one Ive been!

Agree Kitten, I always seem to be the one running around after other people, and instead if thanks, I get 'oh I'll ask Vix to do this too she seems to like doing stuff for no thanks'. My own flippin fault for being such a mug in the first place.

I'm so glad (in a totally selfish way, ironically ) that it's not just me!

On a similar note, whenever it's anyone's Birthday I always make the effort to go out. Most of the time I offer to be the designated driver. Admittedly, I didn't go out for my friend's 18th on Saturday night, but she knows that there was no way I could get a babysitter as everyone was out for her Birthday.

But every year, when it comes round to being my Birthday, no-one is free to go out. Last year's Birthday was a complete write off, and it was my 30th!

This year to save people the effort of saying they weren't free, I made sure my operation was a few days before my Birthday. It also allowed me when asked 'Are we going out for your Birthday this Friday/Saturday?' to turn round and say 'No, I'm busy!'.

Same for me. Being the day before Christmas it's not exactly easy, but year in year out the same people make an effort and the same people couldn't give a ****. It always gets swept away by what follows the next day.
