lol. Don't you start!
Just like dentist, you don't pay a fine, it continues over and over until debt agency gets involved I guess! I don't know the ins and outs of how it's dealt with specifically as I've never had to deal with anything like this and I don't have to time to research it but however they work it with Dentists, I'm sure they can apply the same!! |

What if the first letter doesn't arrive? People will just be landed with a fine and then a threat for debt collection if they don't pay? I'm never voting for you Pheebs, you're an evil dictator deep down aren't you?

All that will happen if you fine people, is that people won't bother making appointments in the first place, which ignoring the social consequences, will end up costing the NHS more money by having to use expensive treatments on patients who could have had illnesses picked up earlier. |

Do you not make dentist appointments because if you do and fail to get there without a reasonable excuse know you'll get fined?! If my NHS dentist can call me up every 6 months - 1 year and ask me to book an appointment and then if I don't turn up, without a reasonable excuse, they fine me... so can blooming NHS Doctors!! Ok maybe I was a little too forward with the whole mandatory thing (it was a passing comment and one I just thought up and haven't put much thought into the logistics of it) but they shouldn't have upped the age!! The fine would encourage people to stick to their appointments! I'm sure! Now I'm not debating any more on this because I can't! I don't know the ins and outs of it but I know it's doable and I know it would probably save more peoples lives than what's happening now!!! |

Is there a viable reason why it's at 25? Is the screening a little pointless or something for younger women, at say 18+ ?

Nom!
Your dentist phones you up to ask you to make an appointment?! I make one for six months time when I attend the current one. My dental surgery never even pick up the phone when I ring them, let alone them giving me a call!

Unsure why it's not 18+.... I think... if I understood my doc correctly... it's all to do when you're sexually active and what not. I guess they originally figured 21+ was the "best age" to go for but then because 21 year olds fluffed up turning up to their appointments they increased the age to 25.
I'm sure there's more to it than just that though. Much more to it. Just saying what I've been told through the grapevine Belmit - Normally I book one when I'm there and what not but last time I didn't for some reason... and so they called me up last week telling me I'm due a check up Maybe I just have a really efficient dentist!? I tend to agree with Pheebs here. If people went and got screened when they were supposed to, they would actually save the nhs money in the long run because it would be detected earlier and then they wouldnt need expensive cancer treatments because it wouldnt get to that stage.
