Most of that is probably Firefox. Leaks like a sieve.

Vista is fine in 1GB - wouldn't recommend less though.

Yes, I admit, my experiences with Phillips are old, so yes, they probably are a lot better now, but what I saw both from the hardware and their repair engineers was enough to put me off for good.

As for Dells of a few years ago, yes, they sure were plasticky, but unlike that old Phillips, they did actually work, and still do. The two 10-year-old ones under my desk back that up - worst I've had is a couple of fan failures and a disk that started to die (but worked long enough for a backup).

My experiences with older Dell laptops (4-5 years) are completely different. The 4-5 year old ones we have spend more time in the IT engineers workshop than they do on the rig. The newer ones are considerably more reliable.

Drives me insane. That's why I use flock or camino, FF hogs all the processes.

Thanks Alex that would be really good. I hate buying such expensive stuff because I'm really indecisive, but if a friend has one and tries it and tells me it's all good then I'm a lot happier to go through with it!!

I'm really indecisive too Its the better end of a bad spectrum though!

If you don't get on with firefox, try opera. Its closed source and i think that helps in some cases... It has/does everything firefox does + the kitchen sink out of the box, web/newsgroup/bit torrent/mail/rss etc... but with the same or less (in my experience) memory usage. Extensions aren't available, but you don't need the usual "session saver" "mouse gestures" etc... because opera just does it anyway. "Widgets" are available though but they're just really dodgy versions of extensions and until they get their act together with those they're gimicky...

Anyways opera is free too, try it you may just like it

It's here! Been waiting at the door for it like a trained dof all day !

Pictures uploading, first impressions are excellent, beats all the laptops i've personally ever used, its heavier than i thought, but i've never owned a latop, and i think i just expected it to be featherlight because its tiny. But it is still light!

Can't say anything bad about it yet, if you can afford the £680 one kitten i'm SURE you'll be more than happy And the extra £100 is (imo) more than worth it too! This Laptop goes for £1400 from Dell! So keep telling yourself that!

/Excited...

Better be careful Alex, I think that little dude in the hat will make off with your laptop the moment your back is turned

Davey

Kitten I wouldn't want to make the laptop look unweildingly small, i don't want to put you off it now do i?

Otherwise seriously its the size of an A4 piece of paper... apart from my 50% extra battery sticking out the back. 9Cell instead of 6Cell.

How much extra juice do you get from a 9cell battery?

I've never had the 6 cell so i wouldn't know

But what i do know is the battery came precharged, and i've had the laptop plugged in twice for a max of about 10-20 mins in total. I've been trying wireless for ages, not used bluetooth yet, had the screen brightness up and down, and general things. It's apparently still got an 1 hour 30 mins left according to dell battery meter. So either way i'd say it was pretty good, and the 6 cell will probably do! 9 cell sticks out a bit, but i actually like it to hold onto I wouldn't choose the smaller put it that way.

/Edit: i didnt say i've been using it *since* 3pm ish when it arrived today!

With a 2 hour 30 min gap where i just left it on went to tea and forgot about it, so it went to sleep
