I signed up for the Home Max 60 service at the suggestion of Zirax and it's been superb.

I'm with Zen, works well though as usual was a right hassle getting BT to enable the line correctly. In total after a few weeks of various line tests and personally testing 5 filters and 3 modem/routers along with unscrewing the phone socket they finally sent out an engineer.
This of course meant someone had to be in the house all day... the engineer finally rang to say he was going to check the exchange before popping over and found they hadn't enabled it there which is why it wasn't working. BT's other great skill is with their dial-up service which I used while they were enabled my line at a previous address (took them 5 weeks) and they managed to charge me £1 for a service a month or two after cancelling. Now £1 is not a lot of money except when I finally got through to their Delhi call center they said it had happened to ALL their customers... Oh, and just to continue my BT rant... I signed up for Openworld back in 2000 or so when it first came out. Months and months of promises and they finally agreed to install it though we had to cancelled our screaming.net free dial-up ISP first. My Dad took the day off (I had school!) and by 17:30 still no sign of the engineer, rang BT - oh, your line isn't ready for ADSL yet so we can't do anything. If you want something done right, don't use BT. |

Taking what seems to be a contrary view to the majority. I had broadband from BT for a year in Shetland and then transferred it to Peterhead, where I had it for two and a half years. The salesperson suggested I take up the new line in Peterhead in advance as it would take 5 days to set up, which I did and by the time I arrived in Peterhead I had a 2Mb connection waiting for me. In Shetland I had 512Kb which worked fine. When I moved to Peterhead, I upgraded to 2Mb then I upgraded to "8Mb". When I first enquired about the "8MB" the helpful lady at the call centre told me the best I could expect off-peak was around 6.5Mb, so I took it.
Peak times I would get as low as 1.5Mb but off-peak I was regularly up around the 5.5-6Mb mark. The home hub I got when I upgraded worked perfectly fine and I never had any issues with it at all, the wireless connection worked perfectly with my laptops wherever I was in the house with no messing about required. I must be one of the lucky ones

naah Stan, I must be lucky as well
I have had BT Internet, from back in the dial up days! it has honestly never faultered, even when I moved house it all went smoothly. I have the Home Hub at home and never have a problem, phone always reconnects if I have to reboot, which is probably once a week. Not because the hub is at fault, our line isnt the best in the world, and it sometimes drops the connection. a reboot always resolved it. The Wireless is faultless, I have my 360, Macbook Pro, another laptop, my N95 8gb and a windows mobile phone all connected. Although, I am classed as an Option 4 customer, so have genuine uncapped downloads as the bought across my T&Cs from years ago not that I use that much |

BT being a pretty large company you would hope they get it right most of the time. Did you have the phone and TV stuff as well Stan?

Wouldn't surprise me if it was price. When the market was first opened up to other parties BT really were charging quite a lot in comparison.

I had the phone but not the TV thing. Phone worked absolutely fine - although, I never used it very much (never use the phone much).
