There were loads of people getting on the bus heading for Newbury hospital, which I thought was rather odd. I got home from Tescos and could hear someone on a tannoy (or so I thought at the time) booming out in the general direction of the hospital (wind obviously in the right direction), and as it was dry(ish) at the time I dropped my shopping (almost literally) and went to investigate.
I discovered Scratcham (a.k.a. Thatcham) fireworks. Cue turning up in trainers and squelching through a lovely muddy field. As I got there it started raining, but I thought 'sod it, I'm here already'. Anyway the fireworks were ace. As soon as they were over I (and half the other spectators) scarpered. Just got home as it started to chuck it down. |

I was tempted to head over to watch, but decided to have a cuppa instead.

My girlfriend organised a big charity event at the Wedding Venue / Manor House at which she works - I must say despite horrific weather it was a great success!!
Several hundred pre-sale tickets and then many, many more at the door- in addition to some form of 'champion firework display team' there was hog roasts, barbecues, tombolas, mulled wine, local brewery/cider farm tents and a sweet company! : all proceeds going towards local schools and small scale charities The rain really was horrific but everyone seemed to arrive, shrug their shoulders and just enjoy the whole evening - I certainly did (plus I got free barbecue/hog roast - hehe boyfriend priviledges ftw!), a number of cars got stuck in the muddy fields at the end of the night but in true bumpkin nature, hundreds of farmers dived on in the grubby end of the car to help everyone on their way! Loved it
