How many TVs do you have and how much do you watch? - Page 5

1 TV techically but it's not licensed for free to air so we use it for alternative input, shall we say. Plus consoles and DVDs.

The reason why people find it so natural to have one on, is because it's the cornerstone of our entertainment. Particularly for the working class, or at least was. When TVs could be afforded by all, it's the prime source because, not everybody can afford to go out and pay for other entertainment, such as the cinema, theatre, stand-up and other performances, at least not any more than once a week anyway. Having the same level (minus the atmosphere) in your own living room, is quite obviously, fantastic and it's been in many generations now that a household should have a TV and it should be watched.

at home we've got two. a 32" (with sky+) in the lounge downstairs that my mum & dad watch. and then a 23" up here in mine and my brother's 'lounge' with a sky+ box, xbox & wii attached.

then i've got my 37" at uni which sits next to the 23" when i come home and links to the sky box also along with my PC & PS3
The most TV I watch though is downloaded episodes of US shows at iPlayer (mainly for BBC HD)

When I was at my parents house there were 5 tv's. Living room, kitchen, my bedroom, sister's bedroom and other sister's bedroom. Now I've got my own house there are 2. Living room and sisters bedroom, although neither are hooked up to an aerial as we don't have one and we don't have sky/cable. All the tv I watch I get from elsewhere. There is nothing on regular tv worth watching so the living room one is hooked up to a media pc and the xbox, hers is hooked up to another media although she very rarely uses it.

Just the one, right in the middle of my room so I can see it from kitchen, desk, bed etc. Usually on in the background if there's any repeats I like, otherwise it's regularly used for new shows and films. If there's nothing I like on then I have the radio on instead.

We've got 3.

One in the living room. It's hardly ever on. Maybe once every couple weeks when Tina and I snuggle up on the couch to watch Dirty Jobs or Deadliest Catch.

One in the bedroom. It's Tina's TV. Drives me bonkers. She grew up in LA with all the noises of a large city. From a very young age has always had one on for background noise since if it gets too quiet she can't sleep. I've got to admit it's funny sometimes the Nick at Nite shows she watches. Whereas I grew up basically in the middle of the forest. I need it to be deathly silent. Or a steady white noise level. So I have a small fan running on my side of the bed.

The third one is in Patrick's room. I think it's been on a grand total of 2 hours in the last year. He doesn't watch much TV. He'd much rather write some music on his computer.

Any shows I want to watch I generally download them. No commercials and I can put them on pause if I get a road side assistance call in the middle. So I guess you could possibly count my laptop as a fourth?

Although there is a third in the study with a PS2 hooked up to it and a large monitor which can be used for watching streamed or downloaded shows.
So maybe it's 4.

The wife tends to put the bedroom one on in the background and channel hop - usually with her laptop or DS on aswell and if there's mothing on she has every episode of Buffy and Angel on VHS!

it's the opposite for me. I have tinnitus and some nights it's impossible for me to get to sleep without background noise. I do try but sometimes I have to flick the tv on low. Two, one in the lounge and one in my bedroom. I do sometimes watch the bedroom one but it's more used at the weekend on low to drown out background noise so I can sleep (living on the High Street can be a little noisy in the wee hours when the pubs kick out). I don't really watch that much TV. A couple hours a week maybe.

In fact a guy came round from MORI to do a survey asking how much TV I watched and what I watched. He then asked if I wouldn't mind contibuting further if needed. Then told me with how much TV I watched they wouldn't be contacting me

Have you tried a pillow speaker? I use one for audiobooks when the other half is asleep and I can't be bothered to use my headphones. A couple of friends have tinnitus and they push white noise through it and it apparently helps.
