From talking to some of the bored people in the distribution centre (I went there a few times for job interviews) it seems that they often try to find the most oversized packaging they can for an item. Apparently it makes the days a bit less dull.

That would certainly cheer me up if I was in a distribution centre - Imagining the reaction of the customer from bemusement upon receipt, to frustration whilst trying to get into the thing and finally a damn good rant about the wasteful packaging manufacturers/suppliers use nowadays

I have quite a few of those bags here. I keep some spares in a box just in case. Bit old now but still functional.

There was a series in New Scientist about this. The worst one was an SD card (or something equally tiny) in a box big enough for a monitor.

Mine wasn't quite so bad but I got sent an SD card in an unfeasibly large blister pack contained within a box about the same size that ATX motherboards come in
