That was kinda the intention with that one. I'm sure Lana will appear at some stage and talk about how wonderful it was

Little Miss Sunshine
I'd heard so many good things about this film that I was expecting to be let down, but it was everything everyone said it was. The performances are, without exception, superb. Each character has an untold story that I wanted to know more about after the film had ended... and what an ending! I think I may have had my hands over my face for the finalé. I didn't know what I wanted to watch when I sat down last night, but it turns out it was this. Those of you doing the IMDb top 250 challenge thing are in for a little treat. 10/10

One of my new favourites.
PS I Love You Absolutely ridden with the kind of clichés that women love... but done quite well! Gerard Butler pops his little Irish clogs and leaves a series of letters containing tasks to help wife Hilary S**** get over it. It has the bullish mother with a heart of gold (Kathy Bates), the man-hating best friend who's just looking for a rich, handsome husband (Lisa Kudrow), and the socially inept male friend who's in love with the widow and she knows it (Harry Connick Jr.). Some tender moments, some embarrassingly clumsy ones, and a couple of half-surprising twists towards the end. Beware: Horrible Irish stereotypes/accents lurk within. 6/10. Edit: Ahahahahaha! Poor Hilary.

In P.S. I Love you, why they got a Scot to be Irish I don't know :/. I like Hilary S**** but she was totally miscast as the main in a Romantic Comedy. Brilliant in drama's, but not a Romantic lead. She's the total opposite of Meg Ryan for example. The plus point for me though was Harry Connick Jr. who I thought was superb.
On the topic of Little Miss Sunshine, it was brilliant for about 2/3's of the movie, the first and third parts being good, sadly, it wandered into a bit of boredom around the middle. I am a big fan of Greg Kinnear though, and again, he was brilliant. |

It Could Happen To You
Highly implausible film, but still a lot of fun. Nicholas Cage is a New York cop, good at his job, liked by the locals. Married to the ever irritating Rosie Perez. On my list of disliked actresses she's high up on it. Her high pitched whiny voice gets my back up faster than any one I've ever listened to. However she's perfect for this role, a whiny, selfish, money grabbing, hispanic wife. Bridget Fonda is a waitress at a local diner, approaching bankrupt, when Nicholas pops in for coffee whilst on shift. Having no tip he agrees to split his lottery ticket with her by way of tip. Of course he wins. 4 million dollars. He sticks true to his word, wife flips and starts legal proceedings to get the money back, he and waitress spend increasing amounts of time together, falling in love and doing lots of highly implausible but very nice things for locals, such as letting them ride on the subway for free... and the story goes on on fairly predictable lines. In essence its a fairly straight forward rom-slightly-com. Nothing particularly special about it. It's the first (and possibly only?) time I've seen Nicholas Cage portraying a particularly believable character. Somehow, though, the film seems to touch something in me. I love it. 7/10

He does appear to be a rather hit and miss director but none of the films I've ever seen of his suggest that subtlety or satire are especially high on his list of abilities which is why I can't quite place whether Starship Troopers is intentionally the way it is, regardless it is a highly enjoyable film and I'm quite prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'll take both your and Kitten's advice though and avoid the sequels unless I'm completely stuck for something to watch, which is a rather unlikely scenario it must be said.
