Highly implausible film, but still a lot of fun.
It's based on a true story. And it's a brilliant film.

Porco Rosso

One of Studio Ghiblis less well known films it has the unlikely premise of a seaplane pilot being cursed with the aspect of a pig. Beautifully animated and laugh out loud funny in places but the story meanders without any real momentum behind it. 7/10

The Lakehouse

Literally just finished on BBC1. An intriguing film about two people living in the same house and corresponding using a letterbox that sends the letters two years through time. A beautifully filmed flight of fancy that dawdles a little before reaching a slightly unsatisfying conclusion.
6/10

He does appear to be a rather hit and miss director but none of the films I've ever seen of his suggest that subtlety or satire are especially high on his list of abilities which is why I can't quite place whether Starship Troopers is intentionally the way it is, regardless it is a highly enjoyable film and I'm quite prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'll take both your and Kitten's advice though and avoid the sequels unless I'm completely stuck for something to watch, which is a rather unlikely scenario it must be said.
Even if you are stuck for something to watch, skip 2 and go straight to 3

Eagle Eye

Jerry (an actually likeable Shia LaBoef) is a wash out, the 'stupid' twin of an undercover CIA operative. His twin brother ends up getting killed right at the start, triggering off a chain of events impacting Jerry.
Rachel (the charming Michelle Monaghan) is a divorced mother of one.
Both end up getting phone calls from a mysterious woman who manipulates them, threatening their lives and and family, forcing them to act according to her will. Not only that but as the film goes on it becomes clear that the caller is manipulating a large number of people. The caller also appears to be able to see everything taking place around the characters. Imagine one of the Operators from The Matrix if you will, and she is able to provide very detailed instructions to both of them, whilst keeping them firmly in the dark.

Spoilers going into what actually is happening:
Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!

The scary reality is that the voice is an AI produced by the government to process terrorist data and deal with appropriate targets. She has decided that based on the decisions of the government to bomb targets without highly accurate data, they constitute a terrorist threat and need to be removed from office.

End Spoiler Alert!

The IMDB rating and reviews didn't lead me to feel it would be much cop, but I find myself rather in disagreement. All parties performed brilliantly, even if the plot could feel a tiny bit implausible at times.
I slowly find myself getting a grudging respect for Shia. Despite the recent over-exposure in films, I'm beginning to feel there is actually potentially great acting talent there. Jerry really didn't feel like previous characters of his, he did a good job with him.
Towards the end I found myself getting quite into the film and hoping for the characters, getting quite scared of the phone lady too.. though ultimately I don't think she was used for as much dramatic effect as she could have. I'd love to have seen her be even more menacing, and ruthless in her determination to achieve her goals.

8/10 - Well worth the watch.

When it comes to this film it doesn't help that i detest Mark Wahlberg (though never entirely sure why), i much prefer his brother of Band of Brothers and Saw fame. Shame noone else does
