The Usual Suspects
Beautiful film. Wonderfully shot and the acting is just spot on. In my personal top 10. 10/10

I think that Smith put in a great performance, and how anyone could describe it as rubbish is beyond me. For example, I'm not a U2 fan but I can hardly call them rubbish with any real meaning can I? Haters in full effect again, it seems. It does make you wonder if it would even be possible for WS to gain critical acclaim from certain quarters.....or, as a stereotypical blockbuster actor, is he forever destined to be slated no matter what he does? |

It's outstanding, helped by Del Toro', Baldwin and Spacey all giving possibly their best performances.

Doomsday
When I began watching this film it was very RAH MILITARY! HIGH TECH! RAH! And I was a bit dissapointed.... Then, as if from nowhere, it started to get silly. Then it got sillier. Then it got even sillier About 20 minutes from the end I was expecting Mel Gibson (or more accurately, Tina Turner) to pop up! If you can get through the first half hour of the film taking itself far too seriously and get to the good stuff then it's very enjoyable. And this time there is a spoon! Slight let down with the ending which was far too much like Marshall's earlier film, The Descent, but still very enjoyable. 2/10 to begin with, rising to 8/10 and then dropping back down to a final 7/10.

Green Mile
I've not watched this for years now, I saw it once and it left a mark. Just watched it again and its lost none of its raw power. I would actually say that watching it again really had more of an impact. One of the best films I've seen, if you haven't seen it..... it revolves around Death Row in America and one inmate that arrives. One film that I would give 10/10 for. In all seriousness I probably won't watch it for a while again, but I guarantee that when I do, it will effect me just the same. edit:- I will add, even I welled up. St. Trinian's
Complete load of gash, and not in the way I was hoping. Suffers from not really knowing what level to stick with. It's a bit like Carry On for kids but then has strange references that younger kids wouldn't even get. Almost none of the schoolgirl characters are believable as the anarchic troublemakers they're meant to be, and either seem to be seven years old, or twenty-eight. The plot is barely there, and despite some top names in the mix it's really dragged down by poor writing and unlively dialogue. They clearly got a real boon in bagging Colin Firth for his role, as there are a number of unabashed, hackneyed references about him. His Pride and Prejudice role gets no less than three nods alone, and at one point he is named specifically as an actor outside of his character! The only people who seem to escape with any kind of dignity are the raver receptionist, the cross-dressing Rupert Everett as the jolly hockey-sticks headmistress, and the effortlessly sexy Gemma Arterton (despite being clearly too old to be there). Celia Imrie and Lena Headey are completely wasted in their two-dimensional roles, and Russell Brand sticks out like a sore thumb as the wheeler-dealer teacher that supposedly all the girls adore but is actually unintentionally pathetic. If I was the kind of guy that liked seeing fully grown women dressed as schoolgirls this film might be worthy of a couple of points. 2/10
