OMG.... I feel so bad....

Pickers and I became distracted when our kettle decided to boil continuously for a few minutes and not stop, causing condensation all under our kitchen units and swelling the corner of the doors. During distraction, which happened to be after play time with puppy, Trio wee'd and poopidoopied in the lounge and hallway (eak!)

Obviously didn't tell her off as we didn't catch her doing it, but just cleaned it up nice and quietly.

Pickers left to sainsburys to purchase some carpet stain remover (we currently only have vanish prewash spray and dettol!) but upon leaving said "this room smells of both dettol and poo!"

Sooo... I went an fetched ther air freshner sprayer thingy, followed by a bounding puppy, and sprayed it in the lounge.....

Puppys face was heart breaking... she immediately cowered away, which I didn't notice until I was back in the kitchen. Scrambling up me she shook and stared at the hallway, sniffing like mad. Upon carrying her to her bed in the lounge she continued to shake and clambered up me, hiding in my armpit

I feel so bad... I didn't realise the weird new smell and spray would scare her so much

Bad me.....

Bit of advice required with wee little Trio!

At night time, Trio has been sleeping in her bed next to our bed (my side). Her routine currently is at about 2:30am she will paw me in the face, meaning WEE WEE TIME NOW PLEASE, and I will scoop her up and whisk her all sleepy headed into the garden where we do the wee wees. This will then happen again at around 5:00 am - 6:30am.

Obviously this is slightly knackering for me, although I don't really mind. I will try and get about 20mins odd sleep in the morning when she zonks after play time. Thing is, a number of people have said this isn't a good plan and long term we're a bit concerned how she will be.

Do we... continue like we do and hope she starts doing all nighters and is fine OR put her in the kitchen with some news paper by the back door and leave her to it?

Pickers doggys have always lived in his folks room and they seem to be fine by it, whereas mine have always been closed in the kitchen (I do recall the puppy dawgs being very very whingy and cry lots at night).

We've only had her a handful of nights now so I don't think a change in the routine would be that bad, but would have to be done sooner rather than later.

Where have you all put your dogs at night time? What would you recommend? I know a few people have said to me we're mad and Picky has been told today that she could become dominating if she is in our room (though judging by her current temperament I wouldn't say that was so)

Ideas?!

*I would be sad at her crying But then... I've done it before... Would she feel abandoned? *

From the dogs our family has had, they whinge and whine a bit, but once they get used to sleeping elsewhere they get on with it, they know when bed time is. It makes them even more excited to see you in the morning. Then on occasions they would be allowed to sleep wherever they wanted - though after time they'd just go to "their" part of the house/dog house as that was their domain. I think now's the right time to do it though.

It'll be better for the dog and you in the long run.

My grandparents Lab was always kept in the kitchen overnight with paper down. I can still recall the morning results when I was upstairs and the dog 'escaped' - earthquake followed by being jumped on and licked to death.

Ive never had any of our dogs in my room at night, I'm such a light sleeper when they fidget about I wake up.

The only way her bladder will be able to last the night is to train it to last the night. At the moment she doesnt need to hang on, when she wants to go, she gets let out. Thats great, but I can see this becoming a long term routine. I'd try in the kitchen with some paper by the back door (and expect her to use it) and after a week or two put the paper outside. I made the mistake with Hamish of leaving the paper down for ages thinking he'd never be clean. Truth was he went on the paper at night because he thought he was allowed to (which he was). As soon as I put the paper outside he was clean at night.

WHY ARE WE SUCH SUCKERS!!!!

She's sooo cute! She's ADORABLE and so happy and when she yawns she makes a little squeek and it's BEAUTIFUL!

Even when she farts she's cute!!

In my brain... in my head... she should be downstairs because:
a) Domineering problems. She might feel on parr with us both if in the bedroom.... I don't really want this.
b) Sleeping. I am a zombie at the moment and to make matters worse I have a cold. Her downstairs would mean better sleeping (albeit she'll whine and I will stay awake and cry my eyes out)
c) Children. When we have kids in the future I don't want her to be above them (relates to a) ) We will be up and down all night and it's not fair on her or us.
D) Smelliness/Malting. Bedroom won't smell of dog nor be covered in hair (not that this matters as it just smells of pickys arse farts and is covered in his belly button and toe fluff.)

BUUUT SHE'S SO CUTTTTTTE!

We're worried because:

a) We don't want her to feel abandoned. Which she will for atleast the first few nights. I feel horrible.
b) No protection from burglars Picky says. Stupid boy, she wasn't bought for a guard dog and he doesn't want to face nawty people breaking into the house! Passing the buck me thinks!
c) I will cry. Lots. Cos I a big muff.

Aww she just squeeked and is suckling her towel.

AWW.

Oh dear God I feel awful

Thing is, Picky said it would be easy to allow her back upstairs once she's toilet trained and allowed to take the stairs on her own (or have the freedom of the house, but her bed would still be in the kitchen).... but the other way round (ie her staying in the bedroom) would be impossible.

Also, because we're leaving her at night in the kitchen we thought it might make her better at understanding when we leave her in the day eventually. Thing is, Picky is concerned she will be double abandoned (both at night and in the day) if we were to leave her!

I FEEL EVIL!

*sobs*

Oh and for all those who have kept their puppies downstairs, did you respond to them whining at all during the night?
