Taken
Starring
8/10 Really quite good for a fairly brainless thriller with some believable performances, particularly from Liam Neeson. Wasn't overly keen on the ending as it almost felt like a bit of a cop-out, also a couple of times it almost strayed into political commentary but it just about managed to avoid that.

I loved that film, its a classic already, its what the current generation of Bond should of looked liked, gritty and hand to hand combat.

I love this film..... just about one of my favourite scenes in the whole film:
Yes, well, not to put a too fine point to it, he was discovered... in the lounge. - Er... doing what, Miss Peach? Where? -In the, er... lounge. Oh, yes, he was doing it. Yes. -What? Oh. Well, something quite obscene. With Annette. - A net? Annette. She was terrified, of course. -Naturally. Yes, well, would you like some tea? |

However the overall plot delivers well and Mickey Rourke plays the part of Randy 'The Ram' Robinson quite well. Not a lot can be said unless it spoils the story but well worth watching all the same 7.5/10 |

'Quite Well' is a bit of an understatement, being that he's the favourite to pick up the Oscar .

Pretty good, and I was surprised the acting came across well for an animated film (well, it's acted but animated over the top). If you can ignore what Ray Winstone really looks like and try not to imagine it's 'him' playing the part, he does a very good job on the voice. Most of the other characters look like their real-life counterparts, and John Malkovich impresses as he often does. I'm not sure it would have worked so well as a live-action film, and would probably have had ten times the budget, so all-in-all a wise decision. 7/10 Alien vs. Predator: Requiem The first AvP was watchable, and at least had some of the mystery and iconography that the original Predator movies had, but this was just gash on toast. Even the action scenes in this were almost entirely filmed in near pitch black so I couldn't even tell how many aliens there were, whether it mattered that they were alien-predator hybrids, or who of the human characters had perished. Of these, some were introduced and immediately killed off. Others we learn seemingly random back-stories to that have no bearing on whether they die or not, or aren't pertinent to the dynamic of the story. We don't even really find out why the aliens were there in the first place, even though the opening scene shows a Predator ship crash-landing after being taken over by aliens. What were they doing on the ship? How did they escape? Was there a ten-second clip at the end of the last one which is meant to explain the start of this one? Who knows. I'm also concerned as to why the Predator just randomly killed even non-threatening humans, and took the time to skin them alive when he's meant to be there getting rid of the aliens. What happened to the sympathetic tribal companionship we built up in the last film? I can only think the people responsible for the film hate me personally and went out of their way to contradict the tacit knowledge built up from my loyal following of the preceeding movies. 1/10, because someone gets their face melted.

9/10 Simply superb send up of rock music and excess, one of the all-time best comedy films in existence and it more or less created the genre of mockumentary. If you've never watched it then do yourself a favour and watch it, no really, do so now and turn it all the way up to 11.

Undoubtedly he plays the part well. His own life experiences must certainly have played into him playing the role well. I think it shows the past 12 months, bar a few exceptions, has been a barren landscape for quality movies if the Wrestler is a serious contender for an Oscar. All imho of course

I wouldn't say so, all the talk is that this years Oscars is the strongest that it's been in a long, long time, certainly many years. The Wrestler, Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, Man on Wire, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Wall-E, Gran Torino... all new movies.
