The retail one I referred to also DIY, but discount was 20% or 10% on electricals and you had to be there about 6 months first, and only one other signed family member could use it.
It was a cracking job and if the money had been better, I would still have been there. Not only were the working conditions excellent but most of the rest of the staff were good too - we used to have regular Friday night piss ups and stocktaking was a hoot. However, when someone offers you the opportunity to earn more than double what your earning for doing less work, it's hard to say no

It's the only job I've had where I enjoyed stocktaking.
We would close the shop at 5 on Friday and before any counting took place, fish and chip suppers and cans of soft drink were fetched and consumed. Then at 7 PM, we would stop for tea and choccy biccies and then we would count until 9 o'clock. Most of us would then decant to the pub at the top of the road, where we would remain until 1 in the morning.

Stocktaking would recommence, albeit blearily, at 09:00 on Saturday morning. We would count for an hour or so until the trainee arrived back with a van full of greasy breakfasts in polystyrene cartons. We would count until 1 o'clock and then we would head up the road to the British Legion Club, where we would be treated to a bar lunch and beers. We would then head back down and finish up the count in the afternoon - luckily, it was mostly done by this time and we could all bugger off back to the pub by 4 usually. Great fun All of the food and drinks over the weekend were paid for by the company as well as overtime.

To counteract the negativity that customer service oh so often gets (and admittedly often deserves too!): a welcome bump for this thread

My iPhone's died today which is rather crappy. Annoyingly I got to the O2 shop too late (I say too late, their site says they close at 8, the shop window says 7 and I arrived at 6.59 :/), so came home and gave their customer service a call expecting hassle as I hate phoning call centres.
Really lovely Scottish woman answered, listened to my explanation of what was happening with my phone. Didn't treat me patronisingly at all. Asked me to try a couple of things but while mentioning politely that I'd tried it earlier, she took that on board instead of ignoring me.

Nothing worked as expected. So she explained about having to take it to an O2 shop or Apple store, which caused a brief chat about how there aren't enough Apple stores about but how we were both pleased there weren't as we'd spend too much then
She sent off an email to my local store to let them know I'm coming in tomorrow, and that was that.

Now granted tomorrow at the store could completely ruin my positive mood about this call but it was nice to have such good customer service on the phone. Means I've come off in the phone in a good mood despite being tired and having a broken phone. It is the sort of thing that I'll remember when it comes to choosing what network to go with in the future.

I've had similar experiences with O2. A lot of my mates went with 3, Vodafone, T-Mobile and used to whine like crazy on coverage. It even got signal at MBs in Pembroke! Never had an issue with O2 and that's going back to BTCellnet around '98 or '99. Their £20 sim package does me well at the moment. Never use all the mins or texts. That being said there is probably cheaper out there, but I don't want the hassle.

There is a lot to be said for something that just works

I've had brilliant coverage with O2 too
Tend to have very dodgy coverage with Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile in this house but never had a problem with O2's signal, touch wood!

After serving a certain somebody yesterday, he told my manager that I'm a valuable asset to the team and should have a pay rise

I think the best thing about it was that it was none other then JOE PASQUALE

I had a mentally disturbed customer go off on one at me on Tuesday. Screaming, demanding the police be called etc. Scary. Although I apparently handled it 'impeccably' until she was removed by 5 security guards.

I was delighted to be told angrily that I am "personally responsible for the failing economic climate" the other week!
