I walked with my stick at the time and said something along the lines of I'd shop somewhere that it was possible for me to leave the shop with my purchases then.
I actually left the cashier in M&S in the middle of my purchases once she told me I'd have to pay for a carrier bag. I said that when they could supply me with a brandless carrier bag so that I wasn't giving them free advertising and paying for the privilege, then I'd pay for it. I have non-plastic carrier bags in the car, however this was a completely spontaneous 'off-the-high-street' stop in, I bought a lipstick and some fruit/lunch stuff and about 20 or so items of foody stuff.

She gave me a bag for free for the lipstick (about 1000000x the size of the product) and then refused to put the food into that bag because it was a 'textile' bag not a 'food' bag. I said that I understood that it was store policy but asked her if she could see the ridiculous hypocrisy of the situation (giving me one massive free bag and then INSISTING that I bought another) and said that it was very clear that the policy was about making money rather than anything whatsoever to do with the environment, and she was so bloody ignorant and rude about it that I told her I'd not be bothering, and started to leave. She shouted after me that she'd put it in the textile bag but I told her to stick it and walked out.

I reuse EVERY plastic bag that is fit for re-use (though most aren't now), and when I plan to shop, then I have my bags for life with me. However I will not be lectured to by some jobsworth and I will continue to leave my stuff on the conveyor belt with huge lunch-time queues if they argue the point!

(sorry to everyone who works in a supermarket/store, but that's how it is!)

Jobsworths!

RRArgh!

When putting some fuel in the car I asked for my change to be broken from the notes (for spending on the damn air/water which they've started charging for also now! RRArgh!)

The smelly jobsworth said it wasn't policy to break notes on customer request... ( really?!)...

So I picked up a 15p fudge bar and presented said notes to her

*mutters about smelly jobsworth*

I wonder if, in a boardroom somewhere, they are looking at a graph showing the sales of 15p fudge bars increase as they refuse to break notes more and more.

Inconsistency in text messages. For some reason it irritates me when people use both 'u' and 'you' in a single text, or abbreviate heavily then leave spaces between sentences (That's what the full stop is for!).

I tend to do that (use u and you) if I am maybe two or three characters over the limit, I go back and shorten the first examples of easily cuttable words I see

02 not telling me my bill wasn't paid > The direct debit failed for some reason.

Man in kiosk shouts at me

"Theres a fine of £50,000 for using your phone on a forecourt!"

I reply with

"I'm not on the forecourt, my car is not moving, the handbreak is on, and I did start and finish the call within 10 seconds"

His reply (shouting again - like a parent telling off a child)

"I don't care, the forecourt stretches from the road, back round to the road, and its a £50,000 fine"

At which point I just signed the card receipt and ignored him.

Grrrrr!!!

I don't get why that forecourt fine exists. Time and time again they've proven phones can't cause petrol vapors to ignite.

I love the odds of it all. My car is a billion times more likely to cause a fire than my phone. Actually, I'd be very surprised if my car wasn't on fire right now.
