My brother really struggled when he worked in Nigeria. All the local guys working under him called him 'Bwana'. It's a term of respect - basically the same as Mr or Sir but my brother's only experience with the word at that time was from TV programmes and movies about slavery and to him it had connotations of subservience. He was really uncomfortable with it and had to ask repeatedly for them to call him something else. The best he could manage was to get some of them to call him 'Mr Steve'.
In Egypt, I tend to get called Mr Stan which sounds a bit weird - I suppose it's better than being called ***t (at least to my face). Being a supervisor/manager, I suppose it goes with the job.

Being called ma’am by people 20-30 years older than me is always odd (being called ma’am by anyone is odd actually)

People who think phobias are funny - one of the carers has a phobia of balloons and another carer thought it would be amusing to burst one behind her

Brother has a fear of height, as does dad but to a lesser scale. We went up the CN tower in Toronto. I was walking around on the glass floor, and eventually persuaded my dad to step on and after a hell of a lot of persuasion, my brother as well. I then promtly jumped around on the glass floor. My dad joined in. My brother was not happy.
