That's the thing Daz, some of those things Desmo lists (tnx btw) sounds really rather useful and I fear I'd get frustrated at not being able to use them without jailbreaking my phone and all the risk that entails. The fact that I can do such things on Android appeals to me.
Daz, do you have the Magic or Hero?

Daz has the Hero

Indeed, dont get the Magic, the sense UI is better imo, especially since the performance issues have been squashed

Bit confused about the Sense UI - what exactly does this give you over and above "virgin" Android?
Also, I presume the update is a "properly" available update that anyone can install, i.e. you don't need to root the phone or anything?

Sense lets you easily store and switch between any number of layouts/wallpaper/sound combinations you decide to create (so one for home/work/whatever), and also comes with a bunch of pretty snazzy HTC widgets on top of the Android stuff.
The update is available direct from HTC for phones bought direct from them/sim free/unbranded, Orange have made their version available and T-Mobile are apparently getting theirs out this week. I installed the ROM direct from HTC with little trouble, no rooting required, just a little help from the Android SDK. I'm impatient

I still think that for me the whole way Apple stuff works is best for me and I was happy to jailbreak to get the extras rather than have a much more open platform but maybe not work quite as well. But then I've not used the Hero extensively.

Have HTC "locked down" the Hero in any way over and above standard Android with their Sense UI or is it just as customisable? Thinking of things like keyboards as I understand HTC have put their own on there - are you still able to install others as with "normal" Android?

From what I can see, he's just talking about what is possible now. Software will always be broken, it just takes a little more time. I'm sure people will find a way around these things.

Does anyone elses iPhone 'hoard' texts? I've just received 7 texts, about 1 every 15 seconds, which were sent ranging from 1900 last night to 0900 today. V frustrating!! (I'm guessing this is network rather than phone)
