Maybe they took a little while to get past O2's rude filter?

I spent two months deciding. I'd suggest forgetting the Magic - the Hero with latest firmware is a better choice. Both Hero and iPhone are great phones and they both have their strengths.

I chose an iPhone because the interface (with accessibility options on the 3GS) was much better for me and my bad eyesight. People bemoan things like the lack of multitasking, but I've switched from a true multitasking phone (running WinMo) to an iPhone and not regretted it one bit. I'm loving it in fact. I just wish Apple wouldn't act like a spoiled brat over access to the platform - then it wouldn't be necessary to jailbreak in the first place.

Speaking of jailbreaking, mine was done within the first week, for much the same reason as Desmo - it's the little things like five icon dock and SBSettings that make a great phone better. They're not essentials so if I ever lost the jailbreak it'd be an annoyance rather than a disaster, but it's enough of a justification for me not to do the 3.1 firmware upgrade. At least not yet. Apple are doing their best to lock out the jailbreak community, but they're smart guys and I'm sure they'll find ways given enough time. The same might not be true for unlocking, but that doesn't bother me (not yet, anyway).

If you decide on the Hero, then I just noticed Orange are offering £150 cashback via Quidco only (might get it on Topcashback via their guarantee). New customers only (you can port out and port back but don't blame me if it doesn't complete in time).

Not shabby at all, for a 404 error.

I'll try mine tomorrow when I'm not borderline 3G signal. What's a good site to use for testing? (isn't speedtest.net flash-based).

iPhones are notorious for it in the US, but generally that's taken to be AT&T and their crap excuse for a network.
