£700k for rights to the Wedding

I'm really not sure how I feel about this. Part of my finds it disgusting that she is using the illness to get all this money but another part say's "fair play" as she is getting the money to set her children up when she is gone.

In all fairness to the girl I'd probably do the same thing in her situation.

If I thought it'd help set my kids up with a decent education and life, I know I'd do it.
Doesn't seem disgusting in the slightest to me.

Maybe "disgusting" is the wrong word and "wrong" would be a more appropriate word. I suspect that my opinion is somewhat tainted by loosing my Aunt to cancer last month and the quiet dignity that characterised her fight against the illness is in stark contrast to the publicity that Jade has gone for.

Thinking a bit more "disgusting" is the wrong word, I'm really not sure what is but the whole situation makes me feel very uncomfortable.

P.S. As you're all lovely people I'm sure a few of you will want to offer your condolences on the passing of my Aunt. While I would appreciate the sentiment it really isn't necessary as I don't get upset about things like that.

As human beings, we cannot help but form an opinion almost immediately. It's almost automatic. However, where it all starts to go a little cloudy is when you get people (and I'm not suggesting you fall into this sector) who are in posession of few of the facts yet condsider their opinion ot be definitive and absolute.

I agree with that. It's all about the ratings, and the cultural debate of do high ratings equal a good show? How accurate are ratings? What percentage of them are genuinely interested watchers, and what percentage watch from habit/lack of anything else?

Honestly? I think millions of viewers and readers genuinely love the reality shows.

Because you take the good with the bad. The media will promote whatever angle they think will sell the most papers. If she's said a racist remark, brandish headlines of RACIST JADE. If she's got a terminal illness it's BRAVE JADE.

You're absolutely right, but after spending many an evening debating things with you I know that not only are you a bright guy, but you don't need me to tell you how fickle and irrelevant our mainstream media is.

I think the celebs are to blame as well to be honest. Some of them are known to call their publicist first thing every morning wanting to know where they are in each tabloid. Fame used to be the by-product of achievement and recognition in a field. Now it's almost like some kind of meta social status. You have people who are celebrities, just because they're celebrities if you know what I mean. Fame by association propels them into the spotlight, usually the wife of some famous footballer. They pout about, making sure they visit the clubs the most press are outside. If they think the spotlight is fading it's time to cook up some crap to get noticed again. Usually doing an autobiography, or releasing their own perfume.

Yes, again I agree. But I think most of them are, shall we say, lacking in content or talent? Occasionally you get a celeb like Mrs. Beckham, or Jade who provoke extreme ends of the argument and by definition extreme responses.

No but I don't think it's the most important thing in the world right now. I can understand putting money away, but the line needs to be drawn a little in my opinion. It's just being a complete media whore. Would her children want that? To look back in 10 years and see how Mum completely sold herself out in order to pay for the Playstation 4 in the corner? Like I said before, do the interviews, take the cash and run. Then spend the rest of your time with your children, sod the media. Again, like I said, merely my opinion.

I'm honestly not patronising you with my next remark, but I think you may feel differently on this subject when you have another decade or so under your belt. Hypothetically speaking, if I was in the same situation as Jade then I'd happily have the front page of the sun, the test card and a hologram projected onto the houses of parliament with an image of me with my knob out on a daily basis if it mean that my children would benefit from it

This.

Personally, I think all Jade is guilty of is being as thick as a whale omlette.

You're saying that there are pretty much no limits to what you would do if it ensured your childrens future, right?
I'd guess that any parents on here would agree with you on that score.
IMHO she's doing nothing more than playing the media at it's own game. If they're daft enough to pay those sums of money then she's going to take those opportunities with both hands.

I wrote this elsewhere and I think it establishes my position, such as it is.

Apologies for it sounding a little harsh - the context is a bit different (and I don't actually have anything against JG herself)...

"I don't care whether it's with her consent or not and nor do I care that it's all for her kids' sake. Giving people a load of cash does not "set them for life". Responsible, loving parenting does that and she's potentially saddling them with the future guilt that she prostituted her own suffering simply to provide them with money. If I were in her situation I'd like to think that my kids wouldn't wish for my progress towards oblivion to be splashed all over the tabloids.

She shouldn't allow the media to exploit her in such a way; the media shouldn't exploit her in such a way; and finally, the British public should not indulge either JG or the media. You'd think there was enough redundancy built in there to prevent what will become a media circus from happening; and perhaps the fact that it's still, somehow, happening regardless, is a sign of how debased our society has become."

I'd say she's exploiting the media rather than the other way round tbh.

It's part of a parents nature to want to provide for their kids. Jade's not exactly going to write an opera to do it, so this is the best way she can achieve it.

It's like anything with the tabloids anyway, you can't really blame the people they feature. There's a big market for trash because a very high percentage of the public are idiots. Therefore, it sell newspapers by the bucketload.

Fair play to her, IMO.

If the media weren't making cash they wouldn't be interested. They are exploiting each other; but that doesn't make it right.

But if she's aware of it and plays on it to get what she wants, isn't that her exploiting them. I'm sure she isn't naive.
