The real test of whether it's a gimmick or a useful tool is whether it's actually easier to do things with Siri and it is. Saying something like "Remind me to call Dave at 3pm tomorrow" is a lot easier than creating the reminder manually. I also love the way it can find music by artist or title, doing a very good job of recognising band names which aren't actually English words. I'm actually finding it a shame that I don't use the phone for music but it's a good trick for down the pub so I've put some on there anyway just so I can show it off

I had no trouble with wifi sync on the 3GS throughout the entire beta. If you go to settings->General->iTunes wifi sync. What does the status bar show?

I thought wi-fi sync only takes place if the phone is on mains power? |

It does say that but I've found it works even when unplugged - weird.

Just discovered something interesting regards reminders which may be of interest.
I was unable to set location based reminders, either manually or via Siri. When using Siri it accepted the request but the created reminder had no trigger on it, location or otherwise. Turned out that it was because my reminders were set to sync with my Exchange account. Disabling this and setting them to sync with iCloud instead enabled the location stuff and, the first time I set a reminder based on location, it prompted me whether to enable location services for the Reminders app.

My contacts are already in iCloud because of the custom fields issue, but it still seems to get confused. No idea where it's trying to sync reminders - don't even know how to tell.
I suspect that it might not initiate sync while on batteries, but that doesn't stop you starting it manually. Same for iCloud too. I'm still getting the 'sync forever' problem. Basically, it never stops syncing - it's always waiting for something to sync but it never happens. Lots of reports of this all over Google but the only way to clear it is to set up as a new iPhone, and I'm not doing that because there's no guarantee it won't come back. PS - battery percentage reporting on the 4S is a bit broken. I deep-discharged mine to reset the battery performance because it was way off. After a full charge, the battery was reported as 2% full! |
