Default P4 memory quetion..

I have coming to me a P4 2.4Ghz PC which needs some new memory. I'd like to order it before it arrives.

I take it that this will be normal PC-3200?

More likely than not - particularly new or old systems may be different.

If it's an OEM system and you have make and model, the Crucial website should tell you.

Just run CPU-Z and it should tell you under the memory/SPD tab.

He doesn't have the machine yet, so that might prove difficult.

If it's not PC3200 then the system will automatically run it slower like PC2700 or PC2100 or whatever the slowest stick of DDR is already in there.

3200 will be a safe bet, and as J69 points out it'll work either way but you'll be under clocking it...

PC3200 is the best bet, very rarely it'll be PC3500, and considering its 2.4, PC3200 is most probable.
