Thumbs up "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"

So the Good Doctor has been going on about this for a while, raving and claiming it's the best film of 2007 blah blah blah so I thought it'd be worth a watch. I grabbed it yesterday and have just finished viewing it.

It's a long film at 2hr 40min and I'd say it probably runs just a tad too long, there were a couple of points that I'd have been happier if things could have gone a bit faster but overall it's very good. Brad Pitt plays a superb Jesse James and Casey Affleck is excellent as a slightly spooky and obviously obsessed Bob Ford. It's shot well, there are lots of scenes that are just cinematically (I think I made that word up) fantastic and it captures the age perfectly. The score fits like a glove and I love the way that some parts are narrated.

The title of the film is itself a spoiler, but as it's a well known story I don't think it's any more of a spoiler than going to watch a film called Titanic

Best film of 2007? No, I don't think so. But it's very good and up there among the best.
