"Is this going to be a habit michael?" (maybe spoilers coming up)
Just watched the 2008 pilot for the new Knight Rider.
Kinda cool I was a little uncertain of the car to start with, it didn't look like my idea of a modern KITT but by the end of the program I've realised the truth. The new KITT kicks ass, although its got some serious drawbacks. Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read! The old KITT was bulletproof, and an awesome car even when the computer is switched off.. this one it seems like half of the stuff that makes it so impressive die with the computer End Spoiler Alert! I only had a handful of small bugbears with the pilot, firstly its yet another English guy as the crook. What is this obsession the Americans have of portraying us as crooks?! Secondly.. Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT just doesn't work for me. His voice isn't distinctive enough or expressive enough to be KITT imo. Anyone that has watched the original Knight Rider can probably hear very clearly William Daniels' voice, how exasperated he could get with Michael. Val makes the new KITT sound like a step backwards in AI technology rather than a step forwards. Finally, some of the CGI was attrocious. Sure the bits how KITT changes shape and the bulletproofing were awesome, but in places it seemed very, very half cut, which seemed odd given the emphasis placed throughout the rest of the program Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read! In particular the final bit with the new transport vehicle, a plane this time, it was so horribly fake. Even the view outside when the ramp lowered looked horribly unrealistic, and worse still when the car came out and the plane soared off. A lorry would have been just as cool and could have saved on ending the program with such dire CGI End Spoiler Alert! Still, given the large number of viewers of the Pilot we're pretty much guaranteed to see this one turned into a series and I can't wait to see what they make of it!

Personally I found it so American. I was half expecting one of the new weapons to be an American flag that would disable terrorists. The new theme is nasty. Is it rock, is it techno, is it a remix? It was just classic American cheese imho.
Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read! I did like it when KITT showed Mike the crying Indian photo though End Spoiler Alert!

Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!
It had to be a plane though as they had gone to Prague (?) so driving a lorry all the way from the US to Europe might take a while End Spoiler Alert! |

The lorry could already have been dropped off after being transported into the country to operate as a mobile HQ for the operation End Spoiler Alert!

But where is the fun in that? In the directors eyes I guessed he thought it would be cooler to have the car come from a plane than a lorry. Shame, I would have preferred the lorry. End Spoiler Alert! |
