Last few times I have done them I have charged 60 quid, certainly not work I would look for though

of course 9 out of 10 times I do it then its for a mate/family and is free

I know its only an hours work but you have to factor in potential follow up hassle

I charge a standard fee of £30 for an O/S wipe and secure delete of the hard disk and then £30 for install of O/S + drivers + service packs

If there are any hard to find drivers, I have a get out clause

For a friend, I will do it for a few pints and a curry.

What's your clause?

I only ask as I've quoted people money for doing a task rather than time taken before and then ended up spending about 5 hours looking for something that's just impossible to find and only got the same amount of money.

For a friend, I'd do it for nothing. Why would you charge a friend anything for doing them a favour, does that not undermine the point of them being your friend in the first plce!?

It basically says that I will install all currently available service packs for their o/s and download and install drivers on a best effort basis unless provided with the original install media relevant to the O/S being installed. Meaning if you haven't an up to date driver cd then I will google for 2 minutes, then move on to something else.

In reality though, I have always found a driver apart from a parallel port Dyson scanner, which I suggested to the customer would be cheaper for them to purchase a new USB scanner from me than make me look for the driver. When confronted with hard figures, people become less sentimental about the first ever piece of hardware they bought

Look down, back up. Where are you?
You're on Boat Drinks, reading the signature your signature could be like.
I'm on a computer.
