Default Download iPlayer stuff for Mac and Linux

It's quite simple using the get_iplayer script...

Download it from here, chmod it to make it executable and then run

Code:
./get_iplayer --terse
to grab a complete list of what's available, each programme will have a number next to it.

Then

Code:
./get_iplayer --get xxx
with xxx being the programme number. It heads off and grabs the file for you.

I'm grabbing the first three episodes of Merlin right now

Hmm, first one is in and the quality isn't as good as I was expecting. It's a bit blocky in places, not great but watchable.

Just trying it out now

Seems to work OK, will let you know on the video quality when it's done.

Just so you know, the highest quality H264 streams which are 640x360 are never going to work with that current program, the level3 content delivery servers use a very different RTMP setup procedure to the akamai ones, hell they don't even use the same app name to initialise, they've just copied the akamai one and left it in there.

Last night though I noticed that bbc seem to have added another content delivery network to the highest quality streams, velocix, although as yet there wasn't a handler I could find in the iplayer code to use them.

Incase you're wondering how I know about this it's because I've been working on XBMC and their iplayer plugin to try and get the highest quality streams working. Incidentally XBMC does now work on Mac and Linux, a pretty nice front end for your media needs and the iplayer plugin works pretty well.

I actually had a poke on one of my buntu boxes over the weekend - always been a fan of it, and it's great to see it ported to relatively platform neutral state

Absolutely, looking forward now to the work on a standard for communication with DVR backends (myth, MediaPortal's TVServer, etc), once that is working too it'll do almost everything and look great at the same time.

Thanks. I just had cause to use this after MediaPortal forgot to download an EPG update again (seems to have a habit of doing that).
