Are you seriously suggesting that you would turn off the lighting ring to change a bulb if you weren't sure if the switch was on or not?
Hold the bulb by the glass and push it into the bayonet. If it lights up you can either be quick and get it in before the bulb gets too hot to hold or go and invert the switch. Simple. |

No DRZ, he changed the rose itself, but it was only on putting the bulb in that he realised it was still live.
Swapping out the rose would normally involve working on bare wires, hence the concern.

I do, but that's because I (a) don't trust myself not to touch something I shouldn't, and (b) I got a bit OCD about it after having a few wiring faults here and never grew out of that habit.

Don't I know it. The stupid thing is that I've wired loads of things in the past and Im pretty anal about stuff like that, going as far as to tape the switch over in the off position.
