CHDK firmware for Canon PowerShot

I'm considering the possibility of putting the CHDK firmware on my S3 so I can get some more life out of it, and maybe do a few extra things I couldn't do before (like shoot RAW).

Does anyone have an experience with this firmware? How much does it get in the way? Most of the time I just want to use my camera how I've always used it, but I want to have the extra features available when I need them (I realise I'll have to learn how to use them of course, which will be a challenge in itself given how many there are).

It's quite cool, if a little raw/gimicky. I've had it on and off on my camera, it's not as amazing as they make out really. But for an old camera for some more life it's probably perfect, you can do a few little nice tricks with it and its open to programming macros etc... Its good stuff, its free and its totally reversible. Just use it and see for yourself?

It kinda depends on your camera and what it's capable of. My A72 or whatever it is could do RAW pictures with the firmware but even with the CHDK firmware it wasn't geared up to store anything remotely useful by way of extra information in the RAW picture. Bracketed exposure can be useful provided you've got it on a tripod.

Yeah i found basically i could play with HDR, but its not easy/quick/fun to use compared to a camera actually geared up for it normally. Its ok for experimenting, i keep meaning to try and test shutter speed on water droplets when i get a better light source...
