Know exactly what you mean about the two lenses. I used my 17-70 for the closeups like the lion's nose but the vast majority of shots were with the 70-200 - such an awesome piece of glass.

I also really appreciated the internal zooming of it as it made life so much easier when it was physically butted up against the fencing
