Cool Sometimes you just can't get enough cores!

This is nothing more than a bit of willy waving, indulge me!

Sometimes it's really great to be able to see a computer working hard. And damn, this is working hard



Eight Xeon cores, all flat out encoding video to H.264, just what they should be doing.

That's one busy box for sure! Video encoding the only thing that regularly tests my server box, in the cpu dept anyway. Pure number crunching, minimal io required.

The thing is, even while it's doing that, the box doesn't feel sluggish in other stuff at all, the CPUs are sitting around 50C and the fans are all at idle speed.

It's a two hour movie, a two pass encode to an average bitrate of 1800kbps took around 15-20 minutes or so. I didn't time it but that's about right.
