Default Facebook trying to be even more like Twitter

Now in statuses and probably comments (though I haven't tried those) you can 'tag' people by writing @Dave Smith

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with Facebook changing to reflect what the consumer wants. Twitter is hugely popular which means that's the way a lot of people want to communicate. If Facebook want to maintain their market share and remain profitable, they need to adapt to give the customers what they want.

To use cars as an analogy. It's widely accepted that Mercedes are usually at the front in terms of introducing new technology. If the likes of Ford or Vauxhall didn't incorporate these new technologies into their new cars, they would soon go out of business.

I have to say, I agree with Stan.

I also must be in a minority for much preferring Facebook to Twitter. I signed up to Twitter a couple of months ago and tried it for a few weeks but just didn't like it, so I deleted my account.

I think it's a little disappointing that FB is just copying Twitter more and more. Nobody needs two Twitters, why can't Facebook come up with something new and add it in, rather than just copy an idea from another website?

That's how myspace fell, it lost it's USP and if you look now, it's just a crap copy of Facebook, and who wants that, when a real Facebook is only a few clicks away?

Well, as facebook stands, you see status updates from everyone (unless you specifically hide people). If they wish to have a conversation, they can use the existing wall system - it's still visible to everyone if you want people to be able to see it but it doesn't fill everyones news feed unless not much else is going on.

The tagging system, should it take off, will move such conversations into statuses and clog up the news feed with people conversing with each other directly using tags.

It's just annoying - I don't use twitter much because I don't really like the way it works. I prefer facebook so I don't want facebook just turn into an overcomplicated clone of twitter but that doesn't work as well as twitter does anyway.

Hmm I can see your concern. So far, however, I have seen no difference.
