They just make your whiteboard one large interactive touch screen for the computer that's hooked up to it. The computer that's hooked up to it will still be running Windows, still able to do everything it's always been able to do. If you want to go browse a website you can do. You can use either a keyboard hooked up to the computer for the typing or use the onscreen keyboard (not recommended myself, no matter how good you are at it it's still fairly slow typing that way!)

The SMART Notebook software primarily serves as being a Whiteboard application. e.g. you get a big white screen with multiple pages, that you can write on and erase to your hearts content, and save for later use etc.

I'm currently stuck working in IT support in a school, we have a smartboard in pretty much every classroom now and they are generally well received by the teachers. It can be used as just a general projector, but the ability to just stop and draw over whatever is on your computer screen is very impressive. One such example would be a biology teacher I was watching recently who was playing a youtube video about cells, he paused the video, picked up a pen and started drawing on it to highlight which part of the cell was which. The newer models have a very short throw projector, this means that a teacher has to effectively lean against the projector before it starts shining in their eyes.

Mei,

Could you PM me your work e-mail address so I can send a quotation across? I'm just waiting for the distributor to get back to me with prices for different sizes etc.

Thanks!

We use SMARTboards in our training environment at work, they are excellent. As Garp mentions, the only real annoyance I have is that you get a shadow when writing on the front projection ones.
