London driving around Euston

I am looking to make a change at work whereby I will be (when working there) commuting into the office which is based near to Euston. Luckily this is just outside the congestion zone. There is an underground car park that I will have access to.

Now, when does all hell start braking loose around there? Would this still be clear at 7.30am and then at 4pm (just before rush hour). I think I would be ok heading in the morning with leaving the house at 6.15am. However on the way home I will be stuffed, thoughts please.

It is slooooooow, Euston Rd is pretty much one of the main arteries and there isn't much you can do to avoid it either - I think the only time I've seen traffic moving at a reasonable pace is 3-4am in the morning

Euston Road is normally messed up back past Baker Street by about 6:45am or so. In the evenings you might be ok at 4pm but I wouldn't bet on it.

Considering you'll be coming in from the east, much the same as my contractors, then it shouldn't be too much of a problem getting in at about half seven. The traffic won't be great but it'll be moving at least. The traffic is normally ok along that stretch when I get into work in the mornings (between 7:30 and 8:00).

At 4pm it's a slightly different story and the traffic tends to back up all along Euston Road, Pentonville Road and along to Liverpool Street. Best bet is to head up York Way and use back roads through Islington, Hackney and Leyton to Leytonstone where you can jump onto the A12 at the Green Man Roundabout (after dropping me off at home

Was afraid you were going to say something like that. Well I do get to avoid it for a little while, work has extended me up north again.

When I do have to go there I will be going down the A12 of doom and then cutting across (where I can), the office is Triton square which is just before Great Portland Street. It's an option and we'll see what the company can come up with.

It's 'orrible! But then what part of London is'nt?

The "normal" route would be down Seven Sisters Road and then Caledonion Road coming out by Kings Cross. Not sure what seven sisters is like now they've finished relaying the water main, but generally it's a no go area! The route I've been taking for the last few months is down the A106 through Hackney then down to Old St roundabout then up City Road which eventually leads on to Euston Road. I usually leave about 2 hours to get into that sort of area.

Edit, actually looking at where triton square is, might be worth going round the M25 to the A1, down and onto the A41, past Swiss cottage (biggest bottleneck on the route) turn left onto Marylebone road and that leads to Euston Road. I know that at least down to Swiss cottage that's not a bad route at all. Longer but quicker.

Where abouts do you live? I'm in Gravesend (near Dartford Bridge) and I just get the southeastern high speed service to St Pancras to commute to Northampton... but St Pancras is one stop away from Euston on the Northern line.

Would probably work out cheaper and easier after congestion charge/sitting in traffic/petrol/etc

I would normally commute in by train but I need to consider my options more now. I have balance issues which mean Liverpool street polished marble floors + wet weather = death trap. Driving would suck, but it would only be when required. I hope to be able to work from home most of the time. Really the only reason to go into into the office is to network.

If I end up commuting there for a while I'll probably swap the Omega for a derv auto banger if I end up in London.

I have a meeting with occupational health coming up so looking at the options.
