HDD Replacement
Well it's about time that I look into a new HDD for my media centre, 250GB just isn't cutting it any more so I'm looking to upgrade to at least a 1TB drive (the old 250GB drive will then become part of Phoenix's backup solution ).
I currently have a pair of 500GB drives in Phoenix (a Seagate and a Samsung) which have been remarkably reliable, but they're fairly old now and I don't know if the latest drives are as reliable (after many scare stories all over the place). Any suggestions on what's good at the moment? Reliable but still giving good bang for buck? Ta.

Two for 84 delivered?
http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=30855 Sammy F3's pretty decent as they go... Or one slightly cheaper 2tb eco green which isn't quite as fast but'll do the job well http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/2TB-S...-89-ms-NCQ-OEM |

5 to 6 Watts for that Eco Green drive is pretty damn impressive.

Certainly tempting
No Netgear wireless network cards on Scan, though [edit] Aria can give me that Ecodrive and a WG311 for £110 delivered.... Very tempting! [/edit]

Only issue I have with the Ecogreen drives is how long they take to spin up. They seem to spend an age calibrating.
Got two of them, along with some WD Greenpower drives. Either are ideal for a media box (nice and quiet - at least once they're done spinning up). |

Have ordered a 1TB Ecogreen, thought 2TB was a bit OTT (would be 8 times the storage when I only really need to double it)... Spin up speed doesn't bother me as I have a separate 80GB SATA for the OS/programs
Holding off on a replacement network card for now and will see what Win7 makes of the Edimax one I have (hey, it might even make it work!). Yay, looks like I get to rebuild my mediacentre next weekend

Edimax seem generally very good for compatibility. The one I have even works on Linux, out of the box!

No need for jealousy, City Link managed to fail to even bother trying to deliver today...
Not particularly happy about that... Complaints shall occur...
