New Xbox is here
OK my new 360 has arrived and I was wondering if I can just sign in with my current Live ID or will I need to copy it over from my old HD? If this is the case how does one go about it?
Thanks

You can recover your gamertag to the new xbox through the dashboard using your Live ID account. This can be slow at times (mostly seasonal when the servers are hit by new users signing up) but shouldn't take too long.
You should also take a look at moving over any game/DLC licences to the new xbox so that you can play them offline. Take a look at this link after you are done recovering your gamertag: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/sy...ensemigration/ |

Cool thanks. I'd already worked out the ID transfer as it asks you to sign in when setting up the console didn't know about the license transfer.
So basically the only things I'm going to be missing once the downloads are all done will be my save games correct.?

That's pretty much it. If you do have your old 360 then you can transfer things over using a normal USB stick (formatted through the 360 itself). Some saved games are encrypted and can't be transferred (Gears of War was one of them if I remember correctly).
