Hell's Half Acre
Last night me and Mrs Dym did something slightly different. We visited The Old Vic Tunnels to see an art installation called Hell's Half Acre, which was put on by company called Lazarides.
The premise of the piece was the artist's interpretation of hell, mostly referenced to Dante's Inferno. The setting was fantastic, a series of dank, dark tunnels and chambers underneath Waterloo station and the installations were all fantastic. A mix of canvas, sculpture, video and photography all of which was somewhat macabre or fascinating. I had my trusty iPhone with me, so grabbed a few snaps of a few of the pieces. Chrysalis 1-5 by Mark Jenkins: This was a quintet of figures, dressed in the artist's clothes, suspended from the ceiling. Somewhat disconcerting. Object Desire by Paul Insect: A huge ball of syringes hanging in mid air, No idea how you'd move that around! And an HDR version of that one (which came out much better than with the flash!): Bernie Made Off by Vhils: A portrait created by drilling into the plaster wall itself! The Heretics' Gate by Doug Foster: A video installation projected onto a screen in a vaulted chamber over a pool of water. This gave an excellent kaleidoscopic effect And finally, whilst strolling up Kingsway to Holborn tube station I stocked up on some missiles to take down a strider
