Not sure how old you are prepared to go but how about:

The Wild Bunch
The Searchers (Though to be fair I could watch that for Jeffrey Hunter eye candy alone!)
Little Big Man
Last of the Mohicans

I've seen some of those others mentioned - No Country was good, I've got Blood and will get onto that.

From the top - I'll do Open Range tomorrow, I did The Quick & The Dead this evening. It took a few minutes until I remembered that I've seen it before but I watched it through to the end. It's not one that I think could be considered realistic but I enjoyed it despite Leonardo being in it. Gene Hackman stole the show and Sharon Stone did a darn good job as a lead part but I've always had a soft spot for her.

I will report back as I go further. Muban, your suggestions are noted and I don't mind going back to old films. I have it in the back of my mind that the closer one gets to the actual era, the more accurate they're likely to be.

Although I know from experience that shooting accurately from the hip is nigh on impossible, certainly not to the accuracy that I've seen in any of these films unless your name is Ed McGivern.

I got 7 Clint Eastwood westerns for 23 quid HMV.

High Plains Drifter was only 3 of those.

I don't know how accurate it is or whether it is what you are looking for but Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was pretty enjoyable and I don't even like Westerns all that much.

Outside suggestion although I've never watched it - The Magnificent Seven.

I did the first ten minutes of Open Range last night while I was waiting for a download to finish off, it looks good. HD quality was superb

and it got off to a good start.

... longest 'pause' in history. Last night I finished off Open Range, surprisingly good except for the bit where Mr. Costner fans ten shots out of a six shooter having already fired four shots from the same weapon!
