Default You lot with the fancy knives.

Hey. I remember that knife offer on here & noticing a few people saying they had Global knives.

Well, my mrs is a bit of a dab hand in the kitchen (ex-chef) & has her 21st coming up soon & has started hinting, first that she wouldn't mind "one of the big global knives".

Whats the best though, if you only owned 1, which would it be?

I'm guessing this one is probably a good choice: http://www.amazon.co.uk/G2-Global-Co...6163693&sr=8-3

That's the exact one I have. Been going strong for years. Slightly tricky to sharpen due to the curve of it but if I can do it anyone can! I use it for almost everything, including opening wrappers with a quick swish.

I think that's one of the ones that I've got, it sure looks very similar.

Has she actually used global knifes or just likes the idea of them?
If she hasn't used them, then knifes are quite personal and all the higher end knifes are great. So it all depends on how you hold them and things like weight to which brand you need. If she has tried them great, if she hasn't then it would be better taking her to a shop and letting her have a play with different knifes.

Personally I don't like globals, undoubtedly great knifes but don't like the shape of the handle and also find the metal gets uncomfortable in a hot kitchen and sweat. On the other hand I find Henckels to heavy and find the more traditional Japanese knifes more comfortable and weighted.
