The Rum Diary was a strange book and I wasn't sure how well it would translate into a film. From the trailer I saw it looks like they've humoured it up a bit though which is probably what it needed. Hopefully the searing heat and boozy atmosphere will carry over suitably to the big screen, and not so much of the depression.

For the film buffs, Edgar Wright has been talking about "Films Edgar has never seen". Some fascinating ones coming up in the comments:

Oooh, speaking of which, have you seen the girl playing Lisbeth? Scary! Much more like I thought she should be than the elfin cutie in the Swedish version.

Yeah she freaks me out... didn't like the Swedish one... but got used to her and Blomvkist bloke in the second one - which I still need to watch again as I fell asleep :/
