Default Avoid OCZ SSD's

I've been having a fun weekend

I'm making a separate thread in the hope to highlight to people just how shyte these drives are.

Recently my machine has been crashing and the drive is dropping out. Its started happening more and more often. Luckily I have backups done regularly via WHS. Even the new 2.13 FW is still knackered.

It seems that all Vertex 3, Agility 3 drives suffer from this. See for yourself the state of things on their support forum:-

I particularly love the thread
"
Where we are with Vertex3/Agility3/Solid3 drives"

No matter how cheap they make them, for the love of bob just don't get one! I'm getting a Crucial drive delivered Friday.

Looking at picking up a Crucial M4 after the firmware upgrade that they have had.

My Vertex2 disconnects if I put the laptop to sleep, so it wakes up to a nice BSOD. Lovely. :/

But once I'd worked that out and set the PC to go straight into hibernate on battery it's been rock solid. Excessive hibernating can cause wear issues of its own but I don't have that problem either because I don't bother with power management while plugged in (laptop only draws about 30W).

SSD is still to be considered bleeding edge and as that link points out, there are as many - if not more - issues with the motherboards as there are with the SSDs themselves.

After much faffing with windows images and fixing MBRs, I have finally gotten around to installing my M4 drive. My initial impressions are that there is hardly any difference to the OCZ drive (which is good speed wise). Stability is fine so far
