I know even in my relatively minor roles in Eve Online I came into contact with him once or twice, and his influence on the game is probably unparralleled. It's always hard to explain just how significant events in Eve Online are to players. In a sandbox online world the communities seem stronger, and especially in Eve where everyone is playing in the same universe/server. Everyones actions impact on everyone else, and over the years few have had quite the impact that Vile Rat did.
