Motor for my sis
Well my sister passed her test the other week and is now going mad for wanting a car. My dad stopped her dumping 5.5k on a 2002 1.2 Corsa!!! I nearly fell off my chair when I heard that.
So being the awkward person that she is, her motor must have air con and be a 1.2 ish. I'm going through the usual suspects of polo, fiesta, clio. Are there any others that I should be looking at? I'm trying to get her to set a max of 3k seeing that in a couple of years time she'll probably want something better. To me spending over that on a 1.2 bean can seems nuts... or am I being unreasonable? |

Sounds nuts to me
I've got a 1.2l clio, lovely car, had it since last November, but it's driving me insane now whenever I go on the motorway. I only paid £850 for it so that's ok, but I'd hate to have spent 3k on a car that 9-10 months later annoys me when on the motorway.

My thoughts exactly, get a cheap motor for a year or two and then get something nice. I think she is just trying to do everything at once

You've got near to no chance of convincing her otherwise though. I think it's one of those things you have to realise by yourself.

I love that one, well mainly the interior! I think you have already got the main choices for cars, only other cars are the ka or punto but they aren't brilliant cars.

What you've suggested sounds fine to me. I wouldn't rule out citroens, hondas either - you can get non-vtec civics which are nice cars. I'm sure she wants leather seats and an amazing interior etc... but that's just not going to happen
How about a Diesel though? They are quite easy to drive, and are low on the insurance. i.e. a 306 DTurbo ok it's a 1.9 but it's only group 5 and only has 92bhp - comes with A/C, Powersteering, electric windows, CD changer, lots of stuff, and can be had for £3k easily maybe even less. I had one for a while and it was a fantastic little car - looks great in 3 door format too.

1.6 Renault Megane Fiji TBH. 1 million miles later* on the same gearbox and 5 years down the road it cost me less than £800 in maintaining it and that included tyres. It was also a group 6, so cheap as chips.
* this is an exaggeration as I can't remember how many miles I did |
