Default Powershot A710 IS

I'm looking at replacing my slowly dying A70, and seen that Canon have now released the A710 IS which looks to me like the A70 with a few extra bells and whistles. Looks pretty good to me, has anyone seen any negative reviews of it? I've seen a few positive but I'd like some seriously critical reviews so I get a more balanced picture (no pun intended) of it. About the only criticisms I've seen so far seem to be with the tripod mount on the base (looks the same as the A70 and is fine once you're used to it) and the slow flash recharge rate, again thats pretty similar to the A70 in my experience.

Seems to be reports of problems with the viewfinder too.

I find the star ratings on these user review sites very much over-hyped, but the comments are often valid.

Try Steve's Digicams for a very thorough, impartial review. It's where I always go when I'm after a good review. Leon's had a Canon A80 and now has an A610. Both are brilliant!

Always like the Canon powershots.
Still got my A80 and am looking for a camera for Kim for christmas.

Got it down to 4 - Fuji F30, Canon Ixus 900ti, Olympus Mju 750 and the Canon Powershot A6x0

Think the Fuji is in the lead at the moment.

Bottom line - The Canon PowerShot A710 IS is a terrific consumer digicam. Its 6x optical zoom is far more versatile than the typical 3x zoom, and the IS feature makes the 210mm telephoto end usable even in marginal lighting conditions. The A710 combines beginner-friendly automatic and scene modes with the aperture-priority, shutter-priority and manual exposure modes demanded by advanced users; it's truly a camera that everyone in your family will enjoy using. Producing very good still and moving image quality and having an MSRP of US$399 (street price in the low $300's), it offers an excellent value and is sure to be a very popular model this holiday season.
Looks pretty good to me then
I've loved my A70, only complaint has been the slow time between pressing the button and the picture actually being taken, often resulting in slight blurring. The IS will help that alot. I've loved the manual shot functions, and have spent ages under specific environments tweaking and changing the settings just seeing what happens.

Well it arrived today, and I've fired off a couple of test shots.

I'm nicely impressed. Its like the A70 but far, far faster! Gives me the flexibility I wanted too with manual settings, and also its added some nice little "scene" templates, e.g. fireworks, snow, beach etc. etc. to deal with common photograph issues with such pictures.
