I think it's a question of "grin and bear it".

It used to be the case that plasmas outshone LCDs in terms of quality but that in turn plasmas got fairly hot. Nowadays there's very little in either IMO and you'll often see certain LCDs perform better than plasmas, and plasmas that are cooler than some LCDs. When it comes down to it, the best thing to do is to actually compare them (provided the shop is showing you an HD broadcast). In terms of what's a better make though, Panasonic are pretty much the best, but you pay for it. My Samsung 32" was £900 almost a year ago, with freeview built in, and I've never had cause to wonder if it could be better. It copes fine with my 360, DVDs, TV reception, and I'm even still impressed by the quality of the built-in speakers when playing CDs. Don't know if it's come down in price since but if it has it's probably still a bargain!

I suppose it depends on what you want from it. In large 50" >= installations I'd still choose a Plasma. For a smaller "fun" TV an LCD might well be a better choice. I'm glad we agree on Panasonic though

Summat like that.
I'm also just about to sell a few shares which will wipe out the cost of that, even if it doesn't touch the rest of my debts. Don't get me wrong, I won't be replacing it if it breaks - that sort of luxury is no longer appropriate for me. |

Nothing I have seen has made me think about changing the 32" Phillips CRT in the front room, this is because Aitch wouldn't want another projector upstairs
