I was really looking forward to this but the more I hear of constant long winded travelling with 'random' encounters every 50 yards, of clearing out areas only to have them repopulate 5 minutes later and insta death jeeps running out of the jungle the more I'm really put off. It sounds like it could have been amazing but a couple of very poor design decisions have ruined the experience.

The travelling is long-winded, but no more so than it is in all the RPG's you love, it's small compared to Oblivion for example.
Areas do re-populate, which is a shame and good in equal measures (a shame because it's not easy, good because you'd get bored of nothing). I've never had a lot of encounters in a row though, but I'm not far into it. Let us not forget, amongst those reports you've read, many from the public but the media have been giving it 5 stars here and there, 90%+ scores etc... It's far from the bad game some people would point it out at. It also seems to mainly be the PC gamers that are slagging it which I don't understand, it's actually one of the best FPS games I've played this year. |

How hard is it? Are there multiple difficulty settings and if so what are you playing on? |

It certainly isn't the worst game ever like some people like to day in the PC gaming section over at OCUK, it's just imo far more average than many other games that have recently come out.

I've just blown a bridge up with a jeep underneath and above full of munitions and the explosion was , it was fantastic. There are some cool little things you can do, like sprint full tilt when in a firefight and by pressing B you can slide behind cover - it works fantastically in multiplayer. It also has a map builder where you can make and share maps in Multiplayer which is a great little feature and something more games should have, I'm gonna give it a real good going over a bit later when I have chance. |

I can't think of many better FPS games released this year aside from Bioshock on the PS3 obviously .

Juts had a go of the level editor and it's incredible! Anything you can think of you can quite literally do, it's absolutely mind boggling how they've managed to get it working on consoles.
I knocked up some buildings, a few roads, put a stormy weather in, added some birds flying around, mounted guns, explosive barrels, kitted out some of the buildings with interiors, added mountains around the outside, ammo caches, spawn points, death cams etc... all in 30 minutes. You get dropped into it to run around just by pressing the back button too. There's a validate option which stops stuff being broken but it works incredibly, incredibly well. |

I think what has annoyed people is it just so unpolished and unfinished feeling. The PC version for example, you can't remap the control properly, it still has the 'consonely' save points everywhere even though you don't need them, the AI is pants (get a mission off someone, walk outside and they shoot you or plant remote explosives one side of an outpost, sneak to the other, detonate the explosives yet they all suddenly know where you are as if by magic), it's very empty, yet as you progress it gets hard to even move 50ft down a road without getting shot at your jeep damaged, everyone is hostile to you, kill everyone at a checkpoint, drive 20 seconds up the road and then go back and everyone is alive again, etc. etc.
Just so many small niggly things wrong with it.

They've put loads of effort into the world you play within but the missions etc all feel like a bit of an afterthought. [EDIT] It's worth adding i haven't given it as much time as i normally would in a quieter period of the year. As i say there are games out atm that are just better imo such as Dead Space which i'm completely addicted to. When i've run out of games i'll come back to this but until then its sitting on the shelf.
